stem is a punk/rock band from edinburgh, scotland. we've recorded two studio demos and played about 30 gigs around scotland. the official site is: stemmusic.com and there're lots of free mp3s to download!
It all began in 2001 when Matt Kay and Kristoffer "Don" Donald, after taking guitar lessons together at school, decided to start a band. They were later joined by fellow school friends Chris Milne (a guitarist delegated to bass!) and Gav Mackinnon (a former international pipe band drummer).
After a year of great fun and much learning of `how to play in a band', stem played their first gig at the high school battle of the bands in march 2002 (and won!). Fresh from the victory, stem self recorded their first EP, root of the problem, in april 2002.
This first EP brought the band their second gig (at linlithgow rugby club!) in may 2002. Not long after this- in august 2002- the band self recorded their second EP, emoo farm, which featured more songs, and was of higher quality.
This second EP earned the band their first `real' gig. This gig was with the mighty Range Eleven at edinburgh's studio 24. In the years since then, stem has played studio 24 numerous times and the live show was even recorded in april 2003 (all the tracks can be downloaded from the official web site!).
In the mean time however, stem played about 5 gigs around edinburgh supporting some high profile local bands and also some touring bands (including, sad society and b movie heroes).
The band continued playing gigs throughout edinburgh (and once travelling up to dundee) until july 2004, when stem recorded a three track demo at chamber studios in edinburgh (also available to download from the official web site). This demo brought the band, amongst other gigs, their first show in glasgow, at the barfly.
In april 2006, stem returned to chamber studio to record another two track demo. The fully mastered demo is now available to buy direct from the band!
Stem will not be playing any more gigs for the rest of the year but who knows, we might be back in 2008 to harrass you!
No prob. I randomly came across your ludicrously out of date web page and thought your music was loverly.
Keep up the good work. Maybe see ye live soon?

Here's to a victorious 2007 for Stem which sees them getting their asses owned by an awesome record label who give them a van, a gig schedule and lots of money.
And by the end of it you'll all have celebrity wives and get followed around Kirkliston Scotmid by the Heat Magazine paparazzi.
Now THAT would be success ;)
