Books
Writer: Mario Acevedo
After Mario bought his first computer, he decided to write a novel. Four computers and with six unpublished manuscripts later, he finally wrote a story good enough to get the interest of an agent and a publisher.
His horror genre books include: The Undead Kama Sutra, The Nymphos of Rock Flats and X-Rated Blood Suckers.
Carrie is the author of Kittty and the Silver Bullet, Kitty and the Midnight Hour, Kitty Goes to Washington, and the forthcoming Kitty Takes a Holiday. She has also authored many short stories found in Weird Tales, Realms of Fantasy, Talebones, and others.
She is a contributor to the online blog Warp Section. It's about Science Fiction and covers a large range of subjects: movie developments, reviewing past television show episodes, merchandise, and video games. Specifically, Warp Section is about anything related to the science fiction genre.
On her web site, Carrie says she is always ready to battle the forces of galactic evil... in retro style. I happen to know there were a lot of evil battles at our 2006 Starfest and I didn't hear anything about Carrie in the brig at that show. I guess, like most authors, she's more into verbally battling evil than actually landing a physical blow for truth and justice. Because of THAT good wisdom - she's earned her ticket back to Starfest and back onto our guest list at the convention.
Her favorite authors (you can tell so much from a person by this list): Ray Bradbury, Robin McKinley, Charles Dickens, Joseph Conrad, John Steinbeck, Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, Patricia McKillip, Connie Willis, Ursula LeGuin, Steven Brust, Phillip Pullman, Guy Gavriel Kay, Lois McMaster Bujold, Neal Stephenson, Jonathan Lethem, Arthur C. Clarke, Peter Beagle, Iain Banks, etc. etc.
She describes her childhood as that of a typical Air Force Brat. "When I was born in January 1973, my father was co-piloting a B-52 all over southeast Asia and my mother was having her umpteenth nervous breakdown at Mather Air Force Base near Sacramento, California. That explains so much, doesn't it?
She credits her parents for her writing. "My mother gave me Heinlein's Red Planet when I was eight. Shortly thereafter my father sat me down to watch 2001. My brain just hasn't been the same [since]."
She's worked as a Renaissance Festival counter wench, a theater usher, an editor, a buyer at an independent bookstore, and administrative assistant. Furthering her studies at CU Boulder, she proudly puns, "Once, I was the student. Now, I am the Master. ('Only a Master of English, Carrie.') Doh!"
She currently lives in Boulder and still does her own laundry.

Writer: Lynda Hillburn
Lynda Hillburn writes paranormal fiction. More specifically, she writes vampire books. After a childhood filled with invisible friends, sightings of dead relatives and a fascination with the occult, turning to the paranormal was a no-brainer.
In her other reality, she makes her living as a licensed psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, professional psychic/tarot reader, university instructor and workshop presenter.
Her first novel, “The Vampire Shrink” -- which introduces us to Denver Psychologist Kismet Knight and a hidden vampire underworld -- was released by Medallion Press, October, 2007. The second book in the series, “Dark Harvest,” will be available October, 2008. Several more books are planned. For more information, visit Lynda’s website Lynda Hilburn
Author: Steven Fawcette
His apocalyptic sf saga The Archangels of Dreamland and it's sequel Archangels II: The Grigori (soon to be release) are receiving positive reviews. The former won the award for best Action-Adventure novel of 2006 by the North American Booksellers Exchange. Dreamland is now slated to become a major motion picture and is currently in pre-production.
Steven L. Fawcette was born April 13, 1956 in New York City, N.Y. The only child of Richard and Virginia Fawcette, he was raised in Westport, CT where he attended public school. After graduation from Staples High School in 1974, he attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL and attained degrees in Communications and Psychology.
His first work experience was with a major advertising agency in New York where he was employed as a copywriter and junior account executive. He later joined a banking software company in Maitland, FL, whereupon he not only worked as a technical writer, but also learned software programming and computer system design. In 1983, he was hired by a major defense contractor in Orlando, FL to write technical and cost proposals for various military programs directly for the Department of Defense, which required him to obtain a top secret clearance with the U.S. Government.
He started his own gaming software company in 1991, working with numerous Native American tribes across the country in support of their fledgling casino operations, which had recently been granted by the passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The profitable company was sold seven years later to an international banking concern.
During his professional writing career, Mr. Fawcette always held a fascination with creative writing and penned many articles and short stories for various publications and newspapers. In 1984, he was selected from a group of more than 800 authors to write a series of mystery novels for a division of Random House. These novels were unique in that they were left without resolution and clues were given to allow readers to win a $10,000 cash prize if they could solve the mystery. These books have become collector’s items and are still sold today on internet websites such as Amazon.com.
In 1999, Mr. Fawcette began to formulate the concept of a grand apocalyptic science-fiction saga which he entitled “The Archangels of Dreamland”. It is the first in a planned series of seven novels, with the sequel “Archangels II: The Grigori” due for a published release in May, 2008. The novel has received very positive reviews from The NY Times Book Review, Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal to name a few. It also won the award for best Action-Adventure novel of 2006 by the North American Booksellers Exchange. The story is slated to become a major motion picture and is currently in pre-production.
The author is a father of three and lives in Littleton with his significant other, Eva.
Author: Christie Golden
Award-winning author Christie Golden has written thirty novels and several short stories in the fields of science fiction, fantasy and horror. She has over a million books in print.
Recently, Golden has been focusing on media tie-in work with Blizzard, creator of the Warcraft and StarCraft computer games. Rise of the Horde, the backstory of the orcs and the draenei, was released as a Christmas present in 2006 to eager readers, and Firstborn, the first of a trilogy set in the StarCraft universe and focusing on the mysterious protoss, saw print in May of 2007.
2004 saw the launch of an original fantasy series called The Final Dance, from LUNA Books. The first novel in the series, On Fire's Wings, was published in July of that year. The second, In Stone’s Clasp, came out in September of 2005. With In Stone’s Clasp, Golden won the Colorado Author’s League Top Hand Award for Best Genre Novel for the second time. The third book, Under Sea’s Shadow, has no release date set as of this writing.
Golden is also the author of two original fantasy novels from Ace Books, King's Man and Thief and Instrument of Fate, which made the 1996 Nebula Preliminary Ballot. Under the pen name of Jadrien Bell, she wrote a historical fantasy thriller entitled A.D. 999, which won the Colorado Author's League Top Hand Award for Best Genre Novel of 1999.
Golden launched the TSR Ravenloft line in 1991 with her first novel, the highly successful Vampire of the Mists, which introduced elven vampire Jander Sunstar. Golden followed up Vampire with Dance of the Dead and The Enemy Within. In September of 2006, fifteen years to the month, The Ravenloft Covenant: Vampire of the Mists enabled Jander Sunstar to reach a whole new audience.
Other projects include a slew of Star Trek novels, among them The Murdered Sun, Marooned, and Seven of Nine, and "The Dark Matters Trilogy," Cloak and Dagger, Ghost Dance and Shadow of Heaven.
The Voyager novel relaunch, which includes Homecoming and The Farther Shore, were bestsellers and were the fastest-selling Trek novels of 2003. Golden continued writing VOYAGER novels even though the show went off the air, and enjoyed exploring the creative freedom that gave her in the two-parter called Spirit Walk, which includes Old Wounds and Enemy of my Enemy.
Golden has also written the novelization of Steven Spielberg's Invasion America and an original "prequel," On The Run, both of which received high praise from producer Harve Bennett. On The Run, a combination medical thriller and science fiction adventure, even prompted Bennett to invite Golden to assist in crafting the second season of the show, if it was renewed.
Golden lives in Loveland, Colorado, with her artist husband and their two cats.
Author: Dayton Ward
In his “normal life,” Dayton Ward is a software developer, having become a slave to Corporate America after spending eleven years in the U.S. Marine Corps. When asked, he will tell you that he joined the military soon after high school because he had grown tired of people telling him what to do all the time.
Whoops.
Dayton began his writing career by inserting running commentary and editorials into the comment sections of numerous computer programs littering the corporate software landscape. After being counseled more times than a washed-out actor at a drug rehab center for this odd behavior, Dayton opted to channel these misplaced energies into writing short stories. Many of those stories were Star Trek-related, and a few of those made their way into the first three Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthologies.
And editors at Pocket Books have been shaking their heads in dismay ever since.
Dayton has collaborated with friend and co-writer Kevin Dilmore on several installments of the Star Trek: S.C.E. e-Book series, articles for Star Trek Communicator Magazine, the Star Trek: The Next Generation novels A Time to Sow and A Time to Harvest, and the short story “Field Expediency” in the Tales of the Dominion War anthology. On his own, he is the author of the Star Trek novel In the Name of Honor, the science fiction novels The Last World War and The Genesis Protocol (the latter to be published in early 2006), as well as short stories in the Star Trek: New Frontier anthology No Limits, Kansas City Voices Magazine and the forthcoming horror collection Family Plots.
Fans of Star Trek who also frequent America Online may remember Dayton from hisyears of volunteering in the Star Trek Club in the guise of "NetTrekker" or "STFC Net." In his capacity as a community leader, remote staffer, or whatever the heck AOL calls its legions of vastly unappreciated volunteers these days, he served as a live trivia game host, content writer, message board moderator, and general all-around pain in the tuchis.
Dayton currently lives in Kansas City with his wife, Michi, where they serve on the personal staff of two mixed labs named Whistle n' Dixie and Midnight the cat. He was born and raised in sunny Florida and despite having relocated all over the country and even overseas, he still maintains a torrid long distance romance with his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Find out more about Dayton at his official web site: www.daytonward.com.
