"Hugs For Sale" is the full length debut of Iowa's genre-blending Stanwood Charlie. Taking elements of hard rock and ska, and combining them with unique song structure, "Hugs" is a unique listening experience. While many young acts try to emulate their rock or metal heroes, these guys purposely side step that sound entirely. These guys have created some truly interesting songs. With a good ear for melody and hooks, the songs turn and twist with dynamic tempo changes. Most notably,"the Death of Caun Shampbells" which starts with a lonely trumpet wail before the band jumps in galloping at full speed. Stanwood's sound also allows for all members to stand out with their craft, particularly Gordon Musel's trumpet peppering each song. Nearly every song stands out: The sing-along "Turbo Tom", the party rock jams in "Baughoney" and "P.J. Harvey", and the gruff acoustic "Thanks For the Ride".
Appearently this band has played some major festivals in Iowa, perhaps the secret's out on Stanwood Charlie. A very promising debut from these guys.
