| About somethingless |
2003-2006 The most fun we've ever had. R.I.P. STL!
Chris: guitar
Lou: guitar/vocals
Ed: bass/vocals
Justin: drums
Wes:Keys
All it takes is some shitty equipment, a couple electrical plugs, and four/five quasi-dedicated dudes to make a band. To play a show, all it takes is a vehicle with a large trunk. To be a band, to be a band that can punch through the entrapping wall of their hometownnow that takes a pinch of something more. Or in this case, Something Less.
In actuality, it takes months of cultivation. The getaway first requires a steady local following, a durable foundation that can only branch out when its ready. And thats where we lie with Something Less, the Hagerstown, MD quartet ready to break out of their native shell. Theyve paid their dues; theyve played their countless Maryland gymnasiums and granges. Neighboring states are calling their name.
In the fall of 2003, two boys equipped with skateboards (Chris and Lou) ran into another skateboarding fellow (Ed). And then came the unrivaled chemistry, a friendship that unfolded between the hours making music and the hours hanging out and listening to music. Enter Justin and the puzzle was complete: four guys outfitted with instruments, some hardcore camaraderie, and STL was free to roam in the local music community.
The five can best be described as an edgier emo-pop, a vigor that keeps their melodies in check with traditionalism but gives it a spin, a shake, or electric shock. With the addition of a Piano in the fall of 2005 they add another layer to the Something Less musical cake (the icing, perhaps?). Along with the frosty supplement, their wits combine into a collective writing army. Most bands split up the task, but for Something Less, theyve reached the ideal: a band in unison and a friendship as the result.
Amongst Hagerstowns strip malls and strip clubs are hardworking blue-collar girls and boys, like Something Less. And among the gymnasiums and granges of Hagerstowns music scene, is Something Less, close-knit and close to a new layer of success.
