You'll notice that we're not here anymore, but this is where we were...
Somethin' Else
294 5th Ave
between 1st and 2nd streets
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Somethin' Else opened its doors on November 12, 1999. We took our name from the famous song by 50's rockabilly legend Eddie Cochran that was later covered by the Sex Pistols. Our store is reflective of the timelessness of music and clothes—what's old is what's new and vice-versa. Right?
On our first floor we carried a fine and varied selection of indie-rock, punk, post-punk, reggae, and garage on cd and vinyl. We also had magazines, fanzines, and books. Upstairs in the loft we had mens and womens clothing and accessories ranging in style from the 40's to the present—including some new designers. Our first in-store was by the legendary UK punk band, Alternative TV.
Somethin' Else is about soul. To regard life with a certain je ne sais quoi, if you will.
If you can see the link from Charlie Parker to Gene Vincent to Kerouac to Cassavettes to James Brown to Augustus Pablo to the Clash to Vivienne Westwood to Le Tigre, then you'll understand.
