Sounds Like
Good 'ole Texas Style Rock-n-Roll. With a little bit of slide guitar, a little bit of country, and a whole lot of other sounds mixed in along the way.
Sole Poets formed in 1995 and released “The Other Half Of the Sky” in 1996.
The CD was produced by Alan Wooley who toured internationally during the
same period with “Killbilly” and also recorded as leader and front man for the Cartwrights. Dave Christensen, writer, leader and front man for Sole Poets, over his musical career has done support shows for major acts such as Tommy Tutone, Foghat, Ray Manzerek and been on bills with The Dixie Chicks, Johnnie Dee and the rocket 88’s as well as performed on stages in early Deep Ellum days with the New Bohemians and Rhett Miller (Old
97’s).
The current membership who also performed in shows of that caliber and has
history here is Dallas with the “Tribe”.

The Dallas Morning News
Review by Dallas Morning News top Music Writer. “The
Other Half of The Sky”----
Just when you’ve got this Dallas band pegged as a bluesy guitar-rock outfit, it shifts gears into sublime reggae on the untitled hidden track and retro-country on the soaring "You and I". The blues-rock stuff sounds like 1975 redux, but songs this well-crafted never-sound dated.

Sole Poets---The Other Half of the Sky---Ellum Beat Records
SINGER/GUITARIST Dave Christensen uses some tried and true musical progressions to match to his lyrics on this new disc by one of the more popular bands around town. The Sole Poets have a rockin’ sound that
is a little tighter than the Stones and a little looser than the Beatles.
Christensen is -joined by guitarist’ vocalist Dan Thacker, bassist Russell Chandler and drummer David Lee, who adds some nice conga work(especially on “In My Head”). The Sole Poets show their diversity predominately acoustic songs such as “Still Believe” and “Deep Inside. Most of this disc rocks, especially on tunes like ‘Time Will Tell’ and “Anything but Blue', which features some smokin’ slide guitar work from Thacker. This disc
also contains a hidden track where the Poets take a foray into reggae territory, further displaying their versatility.
This disc was produced by one of Dallas’ true visionaries, Alan Wooley, the mastermind behind many of the most successful bands in the area. It is
rewarding to see such a great musical mind being applied behind
the board to help a band like the Sole Poets realize their goal.

This Dallas band, led by Dave Christensen, relies on a well written, but somewhat lo-fi rock sound. Primarily a bluesrock band, they show their versatility by stepping outside those boundaries from time to time, usually with success. Listen closely to the majority of the songs and there’s a hint of
stripped down old Stones sound. ”Time Will Tell” and “Still Believe” have an alluring 60’s mellow rock sound, and “My Everything” has the biggest Stones sound, especially in the guitar work. "Tenderness” is perhaps the best here, another of the mellow variety, with a nice rootsy Americana feel. “You And I” is another outside the norm, with a country pop feel, again ending up in the top cuts list. “Change” and “In My Head” are more funk than rock, but manage to squeeze a little of both into one song. “One Of Those Nights” has a
loungy blues feel that works quite nicely. Get track 10 played through and you’ll find a little reggae tune hidden at the end. This is one of those discs that benefited from a lot of listens. The first few times through, it didn’t do a whole lot for me, but once the songs started settling in my head, they
became much more likeable, especially the latter half of the disc. The band
fares better on the slower stuff, and at times seems underpowered for the
harder rock sound. Variety is key here, and there’s plenty to choose from in that respect.

Hi Sole Poets,
As you may know I've lately been combining my vocal duties with Stormzone along with singing for the legendary Fastway. While fronting Stormzone remains my passion and priority I've unfortunately had to step down from my role in Fastway and full details regarding the reasons for this can be found on my latest blog entry. I'll be posting some new songs on my profile shortly and filling the void left by my Fastway departure with even more Stormzone related gigs, news and recordings so please drop by often to keep updated with what should be interesting times ahead. Thank you for your support and understanding, take care,
Kindest regards,
Harv.
