   Don (Trip Dub)'s Blurbs
About me:
Hollywood Swingin', When the Freaks come out at nite (not) Listed in the ‘Whoze Who of Rap’ as Hip Hop pioneer and co-founder of an indie label still in existence. Raised in Queens, NY and son of a cantor who sang and led services for the U.S. Armed forces which was broadcast coast-to-coast on NBC from the Ziegfried Line, Don focused on R&B and gospel at an early age. After singing in the Catskills at such Borscht Belt flagship hotels as Grossingers and Kutschers with Met opera singer luminaries Jan Peerce and Richard Tucker, Don also sang off Broadway at the Lower East Side’s Anderson Theater and Town Hall. His first introduction to R&B was through collecting 45s from Motown, Chess, Stax/Volt and Atlantic records. Across from the Anderson, Don ventured to the famed Fillmore East where he attended all night jams with such Blues notablea as B.B. King, Paul Butterfield and Elvin Bishop. Fast forward to early Hip Hop where Don’s entrepreneur spirit and love of R&B, DJs and Dance brought to the public rappers in the fledgling industry together with the likes of Corey Robbins (Profile), Tom Silverman and Monica Lynch (Tommy Boy), and Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin (Def Jam). Don loves playing his Guild Starfire IV, slide guitars, has absolute pitch and is also a cool dude in a loose mood. He continues to stand proudly by, carry and pass along the Soul / R&B torch. Interviewed – Johnnie Taylor, Maceo Parker, B.B. King, Al Green, Nona Hendryx, Bobby 'Blue' Bland and John Hammond and the Staple Singers for Philip Morris Benson & Hedges Blues festival. Reviews published (artist and technical) – Cashbox magazine and Soho Weekly News top 10 dance singles & album compilation Mixed - National Audio/Video Recording Studios – Tennessee Williams’ “Clothes for a Summer Hotel” Charles Neville’s ‘Dew Drop Inn’ Compadre and influenced big time by Big Joe Turner (‘Last of the Blue Devils’) and Songwriter Doc Pomus (Pomus / Shuman – you know him and love him) Mixed for CBS – Reggae and Soca artists King Yellowman (‘Young Man’ and “I’m Getting Married in the Morning”) and Sister Rose Mixed and appeared on video of Jump Blues band ‘Screamin’ Honkers’ broadcast WABC’s ‘Americas Hottest Trax’. Appeared in documentary of New Music from New Orleans Jazz Fest with ‘The Mechanics.’ Mixed for Dr. Pepper Central Park Festival – Bill Withers
