"SLICE" is a unique investment opportunity in the motion picture industry. Let's make a movie. Join us.
REALITY BITES!
In the fall of '07, the Slice team, along with our friends at Studio 108, created the "So...You Wanna Be My Zombie?" reality TV pilot for the Fox “Storyteller Challenge. We wrapped the shoot after a 14-hour day on the Windy Hill golf course. The talent was great; willing to eat brains & be buried alive. Don't even get me started on "Zombie Bob." Lucky for us, we have a professional, talented, patient & fun crew as part of our team. Did we win? Eh...no. (But it was fun anyway.)
Slice Pictures, LLC is an independent production company located in Richmond, Virginia. We believe that small, indie films have a valid place in today's entertainment lexicon. It's obviously fashionable to throw the phrase around these days, but exactly what is an independent film?
"An independent film (or indie film) is a film initially produced without financing or distribution from a major movie studio. Creative, business, and technological reasons have all contributed to the growth of the indie film scene in the late 20th and early 21st century."(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)
You'll find as many definitions as you will opinions (and you know what they say about those). That said, we're as indie as it gets. We've got a great story, a team of talented professionals, and if we shoot locally, even a golf course location.
Don't call it a comeback... While some diehard fans may argue that the genre hasn't gone anywhere, horror films have made a strong "comeback" recently. This latest success bolsters our belief that new generations of horror fans are created every day.
Slice Pictures plans to take advantage of this.
It's not our intention to just produce another "slasher" film. We're filmmakers and horror fans. SLICE involves very real elements of friendship, trust, sacrifice, forgiveness and revenge blended with an exhilarating action-packed plot. We believe this will have a positive reaction on audiences.
We propose to make SLICE in or near Richmond, Virginia, to exploit economical production costs and longstanding industry relationships. This will allow us to make this picture for the modest budget of $800,000. This being said, as independent filmmakers we realize everything is of course negotiable.
Slice Pictures is committed to creating a quality, entertaining and profitable picture. We wouldn't dedicate the time and energy into this undertaking if we weren't confident we could deliver a thrilling film that not only entertains, but also remains faithful to, the horror genre. (That's right, lots of blood and guts.)
"Slice" tells the story of four good friends playing in the "Wide Open," a wild, after dark, golf tournament. The foursome (and their girlfriend "caddies") reunites in the woods of Virginia at Woody Hole Golf Club, which just so happens to be reopening just in time to host their annual golf outing. But like all good friends, they've had their share of drama.
Q: So ... what happens next?
When a stranger stumbles onto the remote course and into their lives, chaos explodes. Suddenly, the group is plunged into a horrifying struggle with the undead.
Q: Where are the Zombies coming from?
Woody Hole was built in the midst of a forgotten and seemingly innocuous cemetery. Disturbed during renovation, the ground unleashes something dark and deadly. Stimulated by the golfers nearby, uninvited guests crash the night tournament with increased vigor.
Q: Hey man, I like golf too ... but why don't they just bolt?
The other teams have vanished, or worse. The golfers find themselves surrounded and cut off from their cars; their cell phones now useless (of course) due to the remoteness of the course. They panic and scramble into the woods. Their only hope of survival is mired in their ability to forget their differences of the past, join forces and fight their way off the course.
Now bloodied, separated and lost ... and armed only with golf clubs,
what chance do they have?
Who I'd like to meet: Slice Pictures & Studio 108 want to continue to meet and work with individuals who would like to contribute to the creation of an independent horror film; whether we shoot in Virginia, or elsewhere. This includes investors, actors, filmmakers, FX artists, comic/graphic novel writers & artists, producers, directors, screenwriters, and horror fans.
Simply said -- If you love and/or wanna kill zombies, we wanna meet you.
Filmmaking is a collaborative experience. By sharing the production and storytelling process with film students, it’s our hope that we’ll encourage others to tell stories of their own someday. To that end, Slice Pictures & Studio 108 will work closely with local film students to provide them with the opportunity to apprentice in whatever area of production their skills and interests dictate.
It's time to go zombie. Once you go zombie, you never go back.
I want you to become a ZOMBIE, baby.
My LEGION OF DOOM wants you, and everybody you know to become full-fledged members. Yes, you too can become a zombie with the simple starter kit. No fuss, no muss, no pus (unless you want it.) It's as easy as 1...2...3! SNAP. Instant zombie. (Instructions provided with the kit are in no language, just pictures for clearer understanding across cultural divides. The Zombie Nation accepts no prejudice; we want everyone to get a big Zombie Hug!)
We've been working diligently to bring this plan to fruition. We've worked through the nights, the days, the moments between them both in order to bring peace and zombie goodness to all the inhabitants of this fine, fine planet. We are one step closer to total domination of the world.
This is an Out-of-Office reply for ScriptGirl. I'm off on a sun-drenched, rum-soaked summer vacation. Please enjoy this highlight/gag reel in my absence! xoSG
As you may or may not know I was asked to write for an amazing project called quite simply, Barstow. I was introduced to Robert by a mutual friend and the whole thing snowballed. The collection of information has been complete for some time and we are well into compiling it into a readable format. If you"re a fan of Hunter Thompson"s journalism and the styles of Anthony Burgess or Chuck Palahniuck you"ll love Barstow.
Robert"s main stipulation for me, if I was to take on the project, was to keep things as real as he remembers them. What happened is not for people who are easily offended or of high moral constitutions. The fact is that some of the events are downright horrific but Robert survived and made it back to Los Angeles.
I thought that seeing as though the website is now up and running I"d let you know about it. Robert will be posting there intermittently but mainly it will be a place for us to display excerpts and discuss the details of what happened to Robert and how we pulled all the information together. It took a lot of time and hard work but the project is finally getting near to something resembling completion.
