Sounds LikeSituation Taboo was a techno-industrial rock band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Situation Taboo was a founding member of Flat Earth Artisits, a collection of Texas Christian musicians and artists that included Shot Heard Round the Bloc, Chris Taylor and Windows, and Sixpence None the Richer.

Situation Taboo combined techno, three chord punk, and hip-hop grooves to form catchy electro-pop songs. Phil Lovelady originally formed the band in 1989. Situation Taboo‘s final lineup was Phil w/ Garry Franklin, Mike Hassock, and Curtis Saunier.

Situation Taboo released four independent albums; 1990's debut "Crucified" was followed by "All Out" in '92. "All Out"" was produced by Dan Yeaney who worked with D.R.I. on their "Dealing With It" album. In 1994, Situation Taboo released "Protorong." This EP was produced by Gary and Dwayne Dassing of Mentallo & the Fixer, who have done remixes for Zoth Ommog artists such as Leatherstrip as well as producing one of Zoth Ommog's compilations.

Situation Taboo released two albums for Flying Tart Records; “Protodemo,” a rerelease of "Protorong," and “Digitalis“. Situation Taboo‘s last release "Digitalis" was produced by Dwayne Dassing and techno wizards VIRUS.

Situation Taboo's sound was influenced by and compared to the hybrids of Love and Rockets, Joy Division/New Order, Meat Beat Manifesto, and Pop Will Eat Itself.

Situation Taboo packed a high quality, energetic show. In their home state of Texas they graced the stages of Austin's Fat Tuesday's, Babe's on 6th, and the Back Room along with Wacky's Kantina, Doza's, Taco Land, Rock Island, and the Showcase in San Antonio.

Situation Taboo also played such events as Cornerstone Festival and the GMAs.

Situation Taboo's list of supporting honors ranged from national acts Concrete Blonde, Charlie Sexton, Mortal, VIRUS, Morella's Forest, and MxPx to local legends Auschwitz 46, MC Truth (NSL), Thirteen, and Violence and Hate.

Situation Taboo received regular airplay on San Antonio's 99.5 KISS, San Marcos' KTSW (where they were requested more often than Live) and CKDU in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Situation Taboo enjoyed amazing design by Paul Soupiset of Toolbox Studios and the clothing sponsorship of european designers Future Shooter Cyber Threads.

Situation Taboo‘s deal with Flying Tart Records proved terminal. After the indie’s sale to entertainment conglomerate, Platinum Entertainment, Situation Taboo disbanded in 1997.

I had no idea you still existed! I bought what I think was your first cassette ages ago, I can't remember the name of the song, but the one that went "There's no way to say how I feel" was one I played again and again. Don't know how you found me, but I'm glad you did!

SIT TAB ROCKS!!! You're one of the reasons I got into industrial music. I used to work at True Tunes w/John, I still have your first tape demo, the one w/your name written on it in WHITE OUT! HAHA!! I played your TEXAS S.A. tape so much it BROKE :( I haven't been able to find another copy of it anywhere and nobody's even heard of it, let alone your earlier material. Are we gonna be blessed with new tunes soon? A big hello and thanks from AUDIO PARADOX and COMMISSION for your influence and terrific body of work.

lots of great memories for me..
cornerstone festival,
cuttin' all my hair off in your living room,
groovy tuesdays,
messing with the 4-track,

the list goes on...

great to hear those tunes again!

ANd that's coming from a guy who plays acoustic guitar and a harmonica!

Too see your tunes built from the ground up, that was quite the experience...

tought me about songwriting for sure.

But i still can't find a drum loop with my name on it!

OH Philly!

I do miss you.

So.. I feel i should mention a couple of things.
1. These soundrecordings are property of the *&^%$#@l media conglomerate that bought flying tart, never paid us any money, and stole our publishing. They can sue you for posting these downloads.

2. I have DATs of Virus remixes and other wonderful novelties (including John’s video for “The Strength”) that are so much cooler than anything we accomplished on this record.

3. We should re-release the material that we still have- in fact: I will send ASR 10 or .wav files to anyone who wants them for whatever purpose their little heart desires :)

Sweet! I finally bought a copy of the Digitalis CD! I'm actually not kidding!
Balaam's Miracle

Sep 21 2006 9:31 PM

Finally, the legendary SitTab has a MySpace page!
I wonder what's next, a remix contest? A new CD with previously unreleased material? Or perhaps a re-issue of early tapes? Hey, what about a reunion?

I know, chances are slim that any of the above will ever happen, but a guy (who has both Protodemo as well as Digitalis and still wants more) can dream, right? :-)
