We are an all-female swing-klez band, based in Toronto, Canada. We started out in 2005, with an idea to bring to life Yiddish swing, klezmer and roots music inspired by the Barry Sisters of the 1930s-40s old time radio era. Over time, our repertoire grew to include new original songs and arrangements of both traditional and jazz material. Our songs are in Yiddish and English - no Yiddish is required to enjoy!
In the past three years, we have appeared at the Washington Jewish Music Festival, Winnipeg Mameloshen Festival of Yiddish Culture, NXNE Music Festival, New York's Workmen's Circle, theToronto Downtown Jazz Festival, Distillery Jazz, Celebrate Toronto, Toronto City Roots, Winterfolk and Downsview Park festivals, the Rex Jazz Bar Hotel, Toronto Performing Arts Centre, Leah Posluns and Al Green Theatres, Lula Lounge, the Free Times Cafe, The Tranzac Club and the Gladstone Hotel. We have been interviewed on Jazz FM, CIUT, klezmerpodcast and CJTW. Our new CD "Sheynville Express", produced by Eric Stein and released in November, 2007, has been heard on CBC programs such as Roots & Wings, Music and Company, and Metro Morning, as well as on Jazz FM and numerous other world music and roots programs. The CD is available on http://cdbaby.com/cd/sistersofsheynville.

Is that really how you affable snow-Yids up there spend your afternoons? Well it sounds great. Beautiful harmony. I crashed against the rocks in record time.
Will leave the same comment as I just left for Isabel on the maplepost listserv, when she announced your new CD:
Just listened to your new tracks and they are fabulous - such gorgeous bright harmonies :-)
Your lovely Lenka and I met and spent an afternoon together in Toronto this past summer @ Beaches Jazz Fest, so I'm already a big fan (she and I both have those bohemian Czech roots - my dad is a Kindertransport survivor).
It is likely that I'm teaching my vocal students next Thurs, but will be with you in spirit!
Thank you so much for being a part of Mamapalooza. I hope Greg King caught with his camera all of the faces of the people who were digging you out in the audience. Precious! I don't think Cleave ever saw anything like you in all his many musical years!
May we all go mi'chayl l'chayl. Keep rocking. You are the best. And thanks again.
Thanks for the lovely compliment, and for stopping by our site! And may I say also that you have a wonderfully unique sound! Hope you'll make it out west one of these days!
