Andrea Davis-Griffin is the lead vocalist for Prayer/Life, a contemporary Christian music group. She is a clinical psychologist in private practice, a wife, and the mother of two teens. Her husband is a professor at Occidental College and her children attend Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA. She became a Christian at age 11 through the witness of her brother via the witness of 'on-fire' kids at his high school. She has been a member of Pasadena Mennonite Church since the first war in the gulf broke out in 1991; there she has led music and children's ministries. She sings lead and backing vocals, adds flute improv, and writes music to inspire faith and incite worship........
"Singing now is an agreement of obedience to a directive to 'Sing the light of the world' (which presumably entails finding out what that means). After significant waiting and procrastination, now there is 'no more stalling'......."
Best review of Andrea's singing is humorously and kindly written by Stattica lead, Dakota Aesquivel, on Stattica.com: I told Keith to hold up on mastering (the final stage of a produced song) "Karma", because I wanted to try something. "How long?" he asked. "Give me THREE hours," I answered. In walked Andrea. This was the first time we met, much more worked with each other. I handed her the headphones and she replied, "Oh no, I'll just sing with with the music." After explaining to her that we HAVE to use headphones, she consented. We recorded her singing a couple of lines she pre-planned at home, and then I turned off the recorder. "The stuff you're singing is atmospheric," I told her. "Yes, I figured that's what the song needed," she replied. "Just stick me in the background."
But her voice was better than that. I convinced her to sing the choruses as she would a duet. She listened carefully, so carefully in fact that she used her flute to pre-determine the notes she would sing. I've never met a singer so precise and thoughtful with her approach. Anyway, the proof is in the pudding. I can't imagine "Karma" without Andrea accompanying me note for note. A very nice discovery, and we expect big things from her. Remember, you heard about her here first.
