To all the lovely shimmy's. Thanks for your lovely words and although they are only half true, they still kept me smiling all day. I miss waking up to Band practice, really. Wherever I will go next, you are already invited to come and spread some Shimmy charm. How does Berlin sound? Take care.

did you know james was playing drums with a piece of beef jerky last night?

i very enjoyed your yebo not yebo cover, it was 10 spoons fun and tripple good. but i can see why chris got scared when he played trumpet down there on his own that time. twas a fearful racket in the bestest sense.

abysinnia on saturday, though there may be hardly anything going on as mostly bands are calling in sick.

o well, we'll save it somehow.

Look, Shimmy, I don't appreciate your abstract art school nonsense speak. I shall not 'amputuate' anything. As for the trike, well, I only make use of vehicles which have an even number of wheels. Your comments about glass candy mean nothing to me and furthermore, who do you think you are?

I have ever held that the rod with which popular fancy invests criticism is properly the rod of divination: a hazel-switch for the descovery of buried treasure, not a birch-twig for the castigation of offenders.

Sep 9 2006 5:18 PM

Hi

Thanks for your comments...yeah the words in dream songs are dreadful or just plain nonsense..just ask Paul McCartney! Imagine hearing this amazing music, waking up and being able to transcribe it wholesale, but to find the lyrics go "Scrambled Eggs.." (Yesterday) It obviously needed some work. See Emily Play by Syd Barrett was the best example of a "dream song."

Yes, don't let your friends anywhere near this stuff. Chew on it, internalise it, so the secret is safe. I'm not offended if you find you can't swallow it, or it gives you heartburn. Please report any symptoms to me immediately.

It is not necessarily my point simply to attempt derive music from dreams, but to maybe capture something of the essence, texture and flavour of that music. How do I make music that sounds like sunlight on glass?..or make songs that literally chime and vibrate with complicated and unexpected chords of the kind I have heard? That is where the work starts and the imagination kicks in. Almost from the moment I picked up an instrument I experimented with sounds, boring my mum to death with my obsessive plinking and plonking, many ideas the results of happy accidents and randomness...and magic.

Best Regards

Listen out for more soon.
