Background
Together since 2004, Shadow Act blends progressive rock with jazz / funk and progressive metal breakdowns. Influenced mainly by bands such as Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, most of the band's original blend of styles stems from virtuosos such as Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, and John McLaughlin.
Tyler has been playing drums since he was 4, and has gained influences from musicians including Neil Peart, Billy Cobham, and Mike Portnoy.
Doug plays keyboards and synths. Playing piano since he could walk, and he has played recitals and concerts numerous times.
Ian has been playing bass for about 3 years and has especially learned a lot since. His first and greatest influence is his John Myung, but since playing he has derived great influence from other bassists.
Meela has been singing forever. She sang in the Connecticut State Chorus in her younger years and soon after played her own indie/folk music. Now, in Shadow Act, she's transformed into a purely progressive/alternative rock singer. Meela has studied at Berklee College of music for two summers. Her influences are Lacey Mosley, Chan Marshall, Shirley Manson, Karen O, and Hayley Williams.
Ricky has been the latest addition to the band. Added in early fall of 2006, he brings a new edge to the band's ever-changing style. Influenced by John McLaughlin, Tray Anastasio, and The Breakfast, Rick channels a jam as well as jazz fusion influence into the band.
