SEXY CHAMPIONS BIO:
Within their first year this alt-pop powerhouse has been featured in a commercial for MTV2, was voted nextbighit.com’s 1 new band four weeks running, posed for Italian Vogue's music issue, and appeared in the hit internet sitcom, The Burg.
The creation of music producer 'Turbo' and Seth Misterka / Jennifer DeVeau of the popular Brooklyn based electro-punk band Dynasty Electric, the SEXY CHAMPIONS caught their first break when MTV2 cast Misterka and DeVeau for a commercial promoting local music. The spot created an immediate buzz for the nascent band. Who were they and what was their music about? At this point, they hardly knew the answer themselves. They quickly launched Sexychampions.com and Myspace websites where they hung up ruffs of their tunes Explode and What You Want, which they also entered in Nextbighit.com’s weekly new band competition. To their surprise, they repeatedly nailed down the contest’s 1 slot, and venues started approaching the band about gigs.
Somewhere around this time, producer Rick DePofi of NY Noise (The Wreckers, Michelle Branch, Joan Osborne) caught the band at a feverish performance at Headroom Productions’ weekly music showcase and agreed to produce the band.
The result is the four-song SEXY CHAMPIONS promo ep: raw/polished, sassy, smart and stylish radio-friendly Alt-pop with a nod to70s/80s New Wave icons. Hey, it’s not just hype, check out what the press has had to say:
