Influences
Although we each have many individual influences, there is one thing that holds us together as a band, influence-wise;
"Our passion for our music"
Music is something we all thrive on, and we really hope that we are able to show that and share it through our playing.
Peter Eckert This lead male vocalist has always had a love for singing. Pete has been regularly singing publicly in the last couple of years, and has had many audiences stunned with his amazing vocal talents.
Pete may be our lead male vocals, but he is also an asset with his abilities on the trumpet. Pete has been a master of the Brass for the last 5 years, with trumpet and tuba under his belt, having again blown audiences away with his beautiful brass tones.
Pete's love for music is for the simplest reason - "music just sounds so good".
Pete hasn't necessarily been influenced by anyone - he has just always enjoyed music of all sorts!
Jacob Traeger Traegs has been playing trombone for 7 years. He decided to to take up the bone because he was intrigued by the slide.
Traegs' love for music began when he was 10, and since then has become an integral part of his life, to the point that he struggles to comprehend the thought of living without it. His passion for jazz stems from early childhood experiences of listening to his mother's Glenn Miller CDs. As a result his music is heavily influenced by the Big Band era, and the playing musicians such as JJ Johnson and Curtis Fuller.
Other musical influences on Traegs include Sonia Radford and his current teacher Bob Hower.
Traegs' songwriting career began at the tender age of 12 where he wrote and performed a piece of music with Andrew O'Loughlin for his year 8 class. He has since gone on to compose many more pieces, including some now played by The Sentimentals
Anup Mistry
Nuppy has been playing music for 7 years, the first 3 of which were spent with an older lady who didn't like him because he hated theory and always just wanted to play. The piano always fascinated him, with its ability to be melodramatic, sad, exciting, and the way it sets the mood. Nuppy quit piano for a year or so and taught himself jazz, and in the process discovering an interest in Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson (an amazing pianist) and Miles Davis, and these artists helped him to develop some rhythm. He first began to teach himself to improvise after discovering Blues, and after the year or so he met Frankie Bull. Frankie is a Jazz Pianist who taught Nuppy how to imrpovise, because Jazz “is like art: good to look at but there's always a story behind it.”
Nuppy thoroughly enjoys music and it is a major part of my life. Through jazz and jazz chords, he tells the story of his life and through blues, he tells the blues in my life. “Just give me the key and I’ll open the door to anything on that piano.”
Other musicians who have had an impact on Nuppy are Duke Ellington, The Beatles, and especially John Lennon.
Courtney Bain UPDATED
Courtney ‘bangers’ Bain has played music ever since the days of Yr8 band...which thankfully didn’t turn him off of music forever. He was a committed member of various school ensembles, including Concert band on clarinet, prior to Yr10, when he was inspired by its deep and dulcet tones to take up the bass clarinet which he continued to play this until graduating at Tatachilla. Following this, because of his fine-tuned ability, he was invited to join ‘The Sentimentals’ as a perfectly apt bass guitar replacement. He has since expanded his mainly traditional music upbringing (Harry Chapin anyone?) to include the wonderful sounds of the jazz world, which have finally taught him to almost improvise a bass line. The long dusty clarinet, which sat in its case alone for 3 years has also been pulled out to bring some variety to the table. This has added another dimension to the bands ‘sound.’ Sounds such as The Beatles, Harry Chapin, Harry Nilsson, Meatloaf and The Wiggles pounded in his budding eardrums while growing up but however, nowadays, almost anything except rap and feeds his listening hunger.

A love for music has allowed us musicians to form together to continue playing music after we finish High School.
We are always continuing to build our repertoire and also plan to compose a few of our own pieces soon.
Currently our band consists of; Pete, Traegs, Nuppy, Nat, Sophie and Courtney who combined play piano, sax, trombone, trumpet, bass clarinet, drums and sing.
Maybe you'd like to know a bit about us as a group?
Well, up to this point, there's not really a lot to tell!
Pete, Nuppy and Courtney have been at school together since Primary school, and along with Traegs, have spent the last five years together at high school.
Even so, I don't think that any of us, even months ago, would have imagined that we would be together in a band
But here we are - and thats the great thing!
Check out our bio's below!!
Our repertoire so far consists of a number of Jazz pieces, as well as works by groups such as the Beatles, and others!
