Corporate America is about poverty wages, sweatshops, pollution, tax loopholes, and discrimination. At SEIU, that's not a mission we can get behind. We're about leveling the playing field of the global economy, so that workers and their families -- not just CEOs -- can have decent wages, health care, and the other rewards of work. We're into large-scale organizing, innovative direct action, grassroots political action, community coalition building, and 21st century technology. If that’s something you can get into, check us out. We’re 1.8 million members strong and the fastest-growing labor organization in North America. Find one of our 300 local unions or state councils. Who I'd like to meet: Members of Generation S, our partner unions, SEIU members, and anyone willing to talk openly about issues of race, justice and freedom.
CCIR is becoming more and more bold in openly organizing to build violent attacks against Mexican people whom they target for being illegal aliens.
Meanwhile much of their extensive funding is coming from growers, restauranteers, construction contractors etc, who depend on the cheap labor but use the federal immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) and the minutemen/KKK to do the dirty work to prevent labor organization and unions from organizing for living wages and safe working places.THEIR WEBSITE IS CCIR. Andy Stern's actions at the 2008 Labor Notes Conference in Detroit were not only childish, stupid, self-aggrandizing and dangerous - they prove just how out of whack his priorities have become. Why not rent buses and send SEUI members and staffers to support the American Axle strike down the road rather than intimidating and injuring fellow labor activists? I'd be very weary of any leader who uses members and membership dues as pawns and a personal war chest for the great leader's power trip. Remember, Kool-Aid can be hazardous to your health.
February 14th marks the US launch of Fair Trade Certified flowers. This V-Day is very special because for the first time Americans can buy Fair Trade certified flowers and chocolate. Fall in love with Fair Trade and make the pledge to have a Fair Trade Valentine’s Day. Please pass this on to all your Fair Trade Valentines!
Tell Commissioner Paula Brooks to Respect Community Standards
Call Commissioner Paula Brooks and Tell Her to
Uphold the Responsible Contracting Policy.
Commissioner Paula Brooks Can Be Reached At:
614.462.5729 rjsontag@franklincountyohio.gov
The Franklin County commissioners voted on a resolution January 8th, 2008 by a margin of 2-1 to hire W.G. Tomko to do the plumbing on the new Columbus Clippers baseball stadium. The contractor met the requirements set forth in 2002 and was the lowest most responsible contractor. In 2002, the commissioners passed a Responsible Contracting Policy. Paula Brooks cast the dissenting vote against the lowest most responsible contractor.
Commissioner Paula Brooks choose to vote against this resolution, which was strongly opposed by the Associated Builders & Contractors. They are an anti-union contracting advocacy group that is opposed to prevailing wage laws, paying the median wage, in Ohio and have aggressively lobbied to make Ohio a right to work for less state.
