Scuba Dice were formed in the summer of 2003, and are based in the Carlow/Kilkenny area. Having each come from differing, previous musical projects, their variety of tastes sparked an infusion of influences which creates their unique sound.
Scuba Dice are an energetic band with the proof evident in their high octane live performances, their stage presence and their interaction with the crowd.
After several years on the local scene, building a reputation as an electric live show, Scuba Dice began to pen their own material. This allowed them to enter the Kilkenny “Battle of the Bands, 2006” and emerge as winners and record their first, self-titled EP. As Scuba Dice’s success grew, so did their fan base with over 5o,000 hits on their websites.
From there, Scuba Dice made their television debut in early 2007 as contestants in the national TV show “You’re A Star”, competing for the coveted prize of a record contract. Involvement in a reality TV show of this nature may have been frowned upon by many, but Scuba Dice had a different approach. Staying true to themselves and attempting to shatter the expected polished image, they may have changed opinions of the show - achieving fourth position out of the thousands of initial entries. In return, they gained and developed much musical and stage experience in The Helix. The nine weeks of TV, newspaper and radio exposure widened the band’s audience and secured them a nationwide following.
Deemed easy to work with, they have been well received in all aspects of the media. Further television appearances on the popular Network 2 show “Dustin’s Daily News” and the RTE 1 show “The Afternoon Show” followed. A “VIP” fashion shoot, a spread in The Irish Independent’s “Life” magazine for up-and-coming Irish bands and numerous spreads and up-dates in papers throughout the south-east were lined up. Live and recorded radio interviews also helped to promote their escalating popularity, among both the public, and those who work with them. The chart success of their version of Greenday’s “Holiday”, which reached Number 2 in the download chart and Number 8 in the Irish singles charts, proved the extent of the bands ever-growing popularity.
Scuba Dice then launched their first original single “Made”, with a view to releasing another single and a much anticipated debut album. They began touring the country on the strength of their single “Made” and their other numerous and well received originals. They then moved onto record their second Demo which so far is gaining much acclaim. From that demo they are about to release the song “Just Dance” as a download and are hoping for a high chart position.
With every New Year, there comes changes and Scuba Dice are no exception. Upon the departure of bassist Spud, Scuba Dice began 2008 with a new family member in the form of experienced bassist/vocalist Liam Byrne. The band is very excited about the possibilities that the New Year brings with their new arrival. The first of which is the addition of their song “Made” on a compilation CD called “The Mob Rules – A Pop-Punk Revolution Volume 2” released by Californian record company 272 records this compilation is due out in late April of 2008. The record is to be distributed for sale to Amoeba Music (Hollywood’s largest and most popular record store) and Amazon.com. In addition, there is a deal with some of the hottest rock shops on Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd and Melrose Ave for distribution of the compilation. The only way is up for this young and enthusiastic pop-punk band.
