About me:
Students for Sensible Drug Policy is an international grassroots network of students who are concerned about the impact drug abuse has on our communities, but who also know that the War on Drugs is failing our generation and society as a whole. SSDP mobilizes and empowers young people to participate in the political process, pushing for sensible policies to achieve a safer and more just future, while fighting back against counterproductive Drug War policies, particularly those that directly harm students and youth. Sign up for occasional news and action alerts by visiting http://www.ssdp.org/signup/
Who I'd like to meet:
Students who want to help end the failed War on Drugs. Interested in starting an SSDP chapter at your high school or college? Visit http://www.ssdp.org/chapters/start/

Editorial: Dying over drug politics

California and 12 other states now allow the use of medical marijuana, yet the federal government does not.

That means sick people with authorization from their doctors to use marijuana are still in legal jeopardy, that California employers can fire workers who use marijuana recommended by a physician, and that people in need of an organ transplant can be barred from organ-transplant waiting lists.

Medical marijuana user dies for lack of liver transplant. Add my page for more info on Tim Garon. And how this could happen to anyone, because medical marijuana is here to stay.

What's wrong with a nation where students lose financial aid for smoking pot, and where convicted murderers can continue to get food stamps while drug offenders cannot?

Let's get our priorities straightened out!

Peace,

MPP is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. Founded in 1995, MPP works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit its use. MPP believes that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is prison. To this end, MPP focuses on removing criminal penalties for marijuana use, with a particular emphasis on making marijuana medically available to seriously ill people who have the approval of their doctors. MPP doesn't encourage marijuana use. But our failed marijuana laws cost taxpayers billions of dollars a year, keep police from focusing on real crimes, and fail to keep marijuana away from kids. We believe it's time for a new approach-- taxation and regulation. Sincerely, The Marijuana Policy Project
