The landscape of the Roan Plateau along Western Colorado’s I-70 corridor is under a massive threat of destruction from the oil and gas industry. Just like Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), if oil and gas companies are allowed to begin drilling on the Roan, it will destroy the largely unspoiled ecosystem atop the plateau. Unlike ANWR’s remote location along Alaska’s northern coast though, the Roan is a vital part of the economy for many of the towns located along I-70 between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. Hunters, fishermen, ranchers and hikers who use the Roan bring millions of dollars a year to the local communities of Rifle, Parachute, and Silt. Protecting the Roan is more than preserving another beautiful place in Colorado. It is supporting the way of life for hundreds of Western Colorado families!
