Sandy Shore's Interests
|
| General | Music. Friends. Cooking. Laughing. Writing. Games. Walking. Movies. Traveling. Driving. Riding.
I also really like filling out questionaires about what I like. | | Music | So... I believe that every part of life should have a soundtrack... diversity is key. That's just the way I roll, baby.
I'm super into Lounge/chill music and I'm really enjoying discovering new artists all of the time from all over the world. Check out my new friends SCIENCE FOR GIRLS (myspace.com/scienceforgirls) and a new project that I'm launching called THE ALLURE (myspace.com/inspireallure).
I also really am a fan of the singer/songwriter. Nothing hits my soul deeper than this kind of music. Artists like Damien Rice, Amy Ray, Ani DiFranco, Peter Himmelman, Patty Larkin, Van Morrison, Lucinda Williams, Coldplay and Shawn Colvin really hit me where I live.
Just to give you an idea of how all over the map I am, one of my new favorites right now is Graduation by Kanye West.
Despite my pop notions and swirling sonic dreams, I couldn't live without jazz. And by jazz I mean all of it. Smooth, straight, classic, Latin, Brazilian, West Coast, East Coast, all of it. I feel as if my radio career has taken me on a 30 year education of this American roots music and I am a passionate advocate for this art form. I'll see you this fall at the Monterey Jazz Festival... if you've never experienced magical jazz, well then, meet me in Monterey in September.
| | Movies | I love movies. I try to go every week and I'm a Netflix junkie. I like all kinds of movies... except slasher movies. My favorite movies involve foreign intrigue and the use of passports... Bourne, Bond, Mission Impossible, all of 'em. But honestly, if a movie is solid, consistent and creative, then I don't care what it's about, I'm there... with popcorn.
Favorite move of all time: Arthur | | Television | L-Word's over... just as it got started.
Riches has just started a new season. That's cool.
American Idol is picking up. I was really bummed to see Chikezie go. I don't think he was very understood, but the dude is deep.
Survivor.
Looking forward to the CSI shows returning.
| | Books | In between books at present... thinking about writing one. | | Heroes | My mom -- She never ceases to amaze me even in her diminished state.
My partner who is strong in every way, well almost. :-)
My big sister who has loved me no matter what. My nieces who are unique and beautiful. My nephew who has a lion heart. My great nephews who smell like freedom.
My friends and confidants. What a support system they provide me!
Everyday people who make the world go round. The baristas at Peet's. The guy who brings me a weekly box of fresh of organic veggies & fruits that he grows himself. My gardner Bud who shows up every Thursday w/o fail. My next door neighbor Su who spends her retirement learning new art and crafts and excercises her way to good health every day.
I appreciate people who are dedicated to their craft (whatever that may be) and are passionate about their lives and families.

About me:
I started my radio career at the age of 15 as an intern in 1979 at a small AM radio station on Cannery Row in Monterey, CA. The station was in the old BEAR FLAG Building (an old brothel featured in John Steinbeck's famous novel CANNERY ROW). I used to have to report to work at 5 am before school to prepare the news and the coffee. I wasn't very good at either. I'm a California radio girl through and through having worked in Los Angeles (KTWV The Wave), Orange County (KWIZ & KWVE), San Francisco (KKSF), and Monterey (KPIG, KXDC, CD93, KMBY, & KWAV). Is it coincidence that I've worked for three radio stations with Wave in their call letters? Probably not with a name like 'Sandy Shore.' As a matter of fact, I've recently continued this ocean theme as Midday Radio Personality for WSBZ The Seabreeze in Destin, FL (where I upload my voice tracks by way of the World Wide Web). I've been on the air at this cool station since 2003.
I've had the privilege of interviewing some exciting people in my career and I hope that it's only the beginning... Interviews that stick out in my mind for one reason or another are Jakob Dylan (amazing eyes), Melissa Ferrick (amazing sense of humor), Patty Larkin (what you can I say, she's brilliant), David Crosby (a font of experience), John Prine (a wickedly unique talent) and The Indigo Girls (loved hangin' with 'em and would like to again).
In the Jazz community I've had the pleasure of interviewing so many great contemporary artists... Jonathan Butler, Ottmar Liebert, Bob James + Fourplay, Euge Groove, Warren Hill, Boney James, Richard Elliot, Rick Braun, and Joyce Cooling and many more!
I started producing concert events in the Monterey Bay area in 1995 which turned out to be nearly a decade long venture... Loved just about every second of it despite the long hours and incredibly hard work. Live concerts that stand out as unique include Diana Krall & Tony Bennett on the meadow at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, all of the performances from Acoustic Alchemy and Kenny Loggins - I ended up spending the entire day shopping with him in Carmel prior to the show. That boy likes to shop!
While I've certainly logged the hours on the air, and have spent nearly three decades in the Music Business the above info isn't really going to tell you everything I'd like you to know about me... Like the fact that I am passionate about radio. And that's what I really want you to know. I'm not referring to radio in it's current state... I'm referring to the medium of radio that is ARTFUL... it has always been beautiful to me. I knew at the age of 8 that I wanted to paint with music on the radio. Not as a musician, but as an artist that blended songs. I wanted to be a Disc Jockey because I wanted to put sets of songs together in a way that would make people feel something. In my opinion, radio isn't making people feel anything other than frustration. I believe that Internet Radio is a new frontier and an opportunity to restore the beauty of the medium right here, right now by exploding the old model and playing songs that are chosen individually for their quality not for their major label status, or because they tested well in a research auditorium.
In the 1980's, I was told that I couldn't play two women artists back to back on the air (or I'd be fired). I was also told in that decade that I would never be on the air during the days because women DJs only worked at night or on the weekends. And in the early 1990's I was told that I would be fired for playing Tracy Chapman's music (I played it anyway the night I quit). Ah, the memories... I miss those bridge burning days.
Smoothjazz.com Radio launched in the Spring of 2000 and has since become the #1 destination for Jazz on the Internet. A few years later my company debuted a unique sonic experience we call SmoothLounge.com which is a cool, organic blend of Chill music featuring smoooooooth tracks and rich, relaxing vocals (perfect for the party or the after-party). SmoothLounge has quickly become a popular global destination for nu music fans. And this year, we plan to launch GoGirl.net - A multi-genre women's music station that will flip the script.
Thanks for visiting me here at MySpace. I'm hoping you'll tune in to hear one of the many music outlets we're creating on-line!
