A versatile musician, playing in the Baltimore/Washington area for over 30 years, bassist and vocalist Sam Goodall performs in a wide range of styles, including rock, funk, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, rockabilly, country, Texas swing and bluegrass. He is proud to call himself "a second generation musician," referring to his father, Billy Goodall, who played bass in Tommy Dorsey's orchestra featuring a young Frank Sinatra.
Over the years, Goodall has performed with a long list of groups, such as Melanie Mason Band, Eddie Becker Band, The Fabulettes, Honky Tonk Confidential, Chaperones, Sevilles, DC Motors, Pegasus, Ravin, Landslide, Trademark, Sugarbear, Chase Holiday, Topaz, Open Road, Unstrung Heros, Tranz., Opus, New World Band, Guitar Town, Touchtones, Cyclones, Fabulous Phantoms, Holidays, Avenue Boys, Wild Bunch, Lying Heart, No Limit, Shakers, Reekers, Jukebox, Cruse Control…to name a few!
A memorable performance for Goodall includes the time he teamed with Daryl Davis, Seth Kibel and Mark Lucas to back the original Coasters and International blues star Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges. Also, during the 70's while playing with Jimmy Cole and the Roadmasters, he was invited to open for and play with members of groups such as the Nighthawks, Rosalyn Mountain Boys, Powerhouse, Danny Gatton and the Fat Boys, as well as contribute to a number of studio recordings.
In addition to performing, Goodall hosted a popular open mike night that ran for eight years, supporting and mentoring other musicians in live music. In his words, "I love to see musicians get out of the basement and share their talents."
For the past eight years, Goodall has been performing with The Melanie Mason Band. In 2003, the band, won the D.C. Blues Society's International Blues Challenge competition. In 2004 and 2005, the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) nominated Goodall for a WAMMIE award in the category of "Blues Instrumentalist."
