Be careful what you eat for lunch. Roslyn Recordings came into being in early 2003, when - frustrated by the lack of good, solid indie labels in the U.S. and meeting over cheap Mexican food - Mudhoney guitarist Steve Turner and good friend/music industry veteran/cat wrangler Barbara Mitchell dared asked the question, 'What if we just do it ourselves?' The then-still-theoretical label named itself during the ensuing conversation and went and found itself funding over random cocktails that very same evening. Who were we to argue?
Since that fateful meal, Roslyn Recordings has released both of Steve's stellar solo albums (did you realize he pioneered 'skate-folk'?!?) and the latest Marc Olsen record (NOT the guy from The Jayhawks.)
We recently relocated to Portland, OR , which is home to our two most current artists, Derby and Cabinessence. We're intent on taking over the world and making it safe for good people making great music. And we love pirates. Oh yes, we do...
