Reggae legend Bob Marley is being reintroduced to sound systems worldwide. A crop of today’s hottest producers – including Fort Knox Five, Jimpster, Yes King (Rhys Adams & Mark Rae), Afrodisiac Sound System, Trio Elétrico (Boozoo Bajou) and DJ Spooky have remixed a dozen of the cherished songs of the celebrated and beloved master. Roots, Rock, Remixed balances that fine line of being respectful to the inimitable artist Nesta was, and using the bass-heavy, digital technologies available to us today. Nothing of the gorgeous, analog originals (including classics like “One Love,” “Trenchtown Rock,” and “Lively Up Yourself”) is lost in translation. Every song is from the legendary Lee Perry-produced Black Ark days and Roots, Rock, Remixed has received a certified blessing from the Marley family.
Universal appeal: Beatles have ticket to ride Richard Luscombe, Miami February 3, 2008
THE songs of the Beatles have always enjoyed a global appeal. Now one of their best-loved recordings is to be beamed into the galaxy in an attempt to introduce the Fab Four's music to alien ears. NASA will broadcast the song, Across the Universe, through the transmitters of its deep space communications network tomorrow (February 4, 2008) — the 40th anniversary of its recording at London's Abbey Road studios. The music will be converted into digital data and sent on a 431 light year-journey towards Polaris, the North Star, to also commemorate the space agency's 50th anniversary. Former Beatle Paul McCartney, who co-wrote the song with John Lennon and played an extraterrestrial concert from Earth to the international space station crew in 2005, said he was excited by the project. "Well done, NASA," he said. "Send my love to the aliens." Whether there is anything out there to hear the broadcast is another matter. But according to Briton Martin Lewis, a Los Angeles-based former producer of Beatles DVDs who came up with the idea, it would be fun trying to collect the royalties. Tomorrow has also been declared Across the Universe Day by Beatles fans around the world. GUARDIAN
Update: The broadcast will begin its journey to Polaris, the North Star, at 7 p.m. EST/Monday Evening. Flying at the speed of light, it will take 431 years to reach its final destination. Polaris is 2.5 quadrillion miles from Earth.
HAPPY ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DAY!!! From the ROBOTS FROM MARS
Welcome friend and break a circuit breaker! May fireworks light up your sky! Sometimes music bounces from inside your head to the next dimension and sometimes it's right in front of you. Just grab the magic and go for broke!
I've always prided myself on having a low IQ since I was made with cheap re-processed American parts and a third class synthetic brain. Did you ever hear a robot spouting philosophy in his underwear?
