Introduction To ROAE/Ethos:
Rock Of Ages Entertainment is a rarity in this industry. A company built on principles such as honesty, integrity and hard work. Having been raised in the industry by the school of hard knocks, we learnt our lessons the hard way and have worked in just about every area of the music industry in terms of performance, event management, artist representation, marketing and so on...
We look at our endeavours as a partnership. Our services are geared towards making the industry a much easier place to be profitable for our artists without ripping off promoters. Can this be achieved? Of course – you just need to be able to go about it in the right way – methodology is paramount, and the means never justify the ends. Anyone can rip someone off, but in order to get the return business, you need to be realistic about your value and place in the industry. Sadly, 99% of the bands that come our way think they know how to do it, and because they once played to 90 people at the local pub, they think they’re Bon Jovi... that, in short, is equal to the amount of bands that aren’t fit for the industry.

History:
Having started out as a guitarist and songwriter which became a fruitless endeavour in a dying industry, Steven Nagle embarked on ambitious plans on the “other side of the microphone” for a festival, record label and everything else needed to put bands on the route to success.
The vision is beginning to bear fruit. In a career now spanning 12 years as a musician, artist manager, booking agent and promoter, and with his label “Silent Frontier Records” also beginning to come to fruition, it won’t be long before things begin to take off big time. In 2005, Steve began hosting concerts in London and Coventry, and began working with a number of British and American artists. Three years later, and with a collective 12 years experience working and networking in all areas of the industry, Steve has now formally launched his plan for world domination – not for himself – but for others.
In 2007, the company launched it’s first ever “Rock Of Ages Fest”, which was a major learning curve, and which enjoyed much success at it’s host venue The Palace in Tamworth, from which it has moved in 2008 to Birmingham’s “The Asylum” in Hockley. In 2009, the event will relocate to Swansea where the capacity will increase from 500 to 2,000.

Criteria For Taking Bands On:
A professional quality recording... As close to 24-7 availability as possible... A drop-things-and-go mentality... A staunch work ethic... A willingness to be led in the ways of the industry... NO EGO! No pissheads, drunks or druggies (COMPANY POLICY)... Bands solely focused on becoming career artists and motivated towards that end... Bands willing to spend money in the areas that matter... Bands may be asked to sign a “no drinking/drugs” contract – so be prepared for that, as we don’t take hellraisers!... Bands must be willing to front a sensible budget including our fees... Bands need to treat their career with us as a partnership – which means being willing to work towards a common goal...
Too often in the past we have taken bands on purely because they’re good bands and good people, but we have learned that most of them aren’t up to the pace of the industry and most aren’t motivated or have no means of acquiring a budget to work from. Unlike a lot of top music industry people who have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth, Rock Of Ages Entertainment have been media people where everything is “deadline, deadline, deadline!”, meaning we move quickly and band’s must be able to keep up the pace, even if it kills them in the process. We do the things we do because of our willingness to work hard and move in advance of when we need to, rather than when we have to or are made to!

A Company For The Changing Face Of The Music Industry:
The music industry has changed a lot in the 54 years since popular music came into existence. However, no industry has changed as much as the music industry in the last 5-10 years. The knowledge of how to hit the big time has come to light and the changing face of the industry has left the door wide open to the most motivated artists to achieve significant things from appearances at massive festivals to extensive international tours. The tricky part is to turn prospective/promotional appearances into profitable ones – especially with the global economy just next door to crisis point.
Most bands aren’t aware of the ways of the industry, and even fewer are aware of the effects of the economy, life cycle and other things work in conjunction with how the industry operates. Changing culture though, has to be the single biggest factor in the music industry’s downfall – with 64% less money being spent on concerts nowadays relative to 1998, and 78% less being spent on music since the creation of Napster, which, ultimately, cost the industry almost everything.
The holy grail for bands still seems to be to get signed to a major label. In today’s uncertain climate it isn’t the promised land you’d imagine. Major labels are born dictatorships – seizing all IPR, paying their bands a very small percentage of the overall income and ripping everyone off for their own gain. Did you know a lot of the celebrities out there aren’t as rich as they make out? A lot of the “celeb” image is down to choreographers and label-sponsored purchases. On top of that, the level of control on the person, as well as the artist, is obscene – some label contracts dictate who you talk to, how, what you eat, what time you get up, how many days a week you must be at their beckon-call, fitness regimes, etc; - I hate to use the phrase “evil empires”, but believe me, I’ve seen some of the contracts that top names have signed after being promised fame and fortune, and they’re not pretty! Why suffer this when the global music market is open for the pillaging? So many bands out there, but not many with the grey matter to make them matter to the people! NOW IS THE TIME!!
