ROCKFORT is a French Radio show on RESONANCE 104FM - LONDON
Since the French Touch explosion put Frances musical output back on the in list in the nineties, the French music scene has experienced a flowering of talent unseen since the heyday of Serge Gainsbourg, Francoise Hardy et al. The country's groups are forging a new identity which goes beyond aping English and American successes, producing weird and wonderful new sounds. There are vibrant electronic productions, of course, but also urgent, inventive rock, lush nouvelle chanson and surrealist, innovative hip-hop.
Over an hour, Rockfort aims to showcase the best in contemporary French rock, pop, hip-hop and electro alongside a smattering of classics, as well as delivering informed but irreverent chat about French music, books and other related matters, guests selecting personal favourites, live sessions and even recipes, so it wont be just listeners musical palettes that are stimulated.
Typical topics will range from French artists with gigs in London and information on tracks played, to the latest novel by Michel Houllebecq, or Anglo-French relations. Among the artists on the playlist, you might find electro-rockers Prototypes; new electronic wizz Jackson; enigmatic Versailles rapper Klub des Loosers; genius producer-arranger Bertrand Burgalat; cult Eighties stars like Les Rita Mitsouko; obscure sixties garage cuts or an old favourite by Jacques Dutronc or the great Serge himself.
