Who would have guessed that the true meaning behind this vastly famous quote first rested on the shoulders of 5 young men? Imagine a band with the furious driving attack of Chiodos, the firm rotating vocals of Emery or Underoath, and the irreplaceable synth accompaniment of Scary Kids Scaring Kids and you have mixed yourself a potent formula of what generations will remember as Riot Like Words.
Described suitably as "Well-mapped passion and a beautiful overall density, angulated over bracing synth lines" (Absolutepunk.net,) Riot Like Words explodes into the music scene with their impressive self-titled, self released CD. The band is comprised of 5 equally important members. Vocalist Craig Dacy keeps his lyrics confrontational, always capturing what everyone seems to have on their mind but is never bold enough to say. Guitarist and backup vocalist Wes Seaton compliments Craig's vocals ever so teasingly, leaving you admirably satisfied but constantly wanting more. Synth lines drive the power of the band as Kyle Hughes layers the songs as if they were the icing on the cake. Don't forget his scream, as it is the other essential dessert that give this band their edge. Mason Buchannon is undoubtedly the backbone of the band. His drums fill out the music, keeping it interesting as this is a big focus of their music. The lineup is solidified by Adam Hovey, guitarist and one of the main song writers, who is constantly encouraging the band to push their limit and break new barriers that were born under the roots of pop-punk. Through several line-up changes and a dedication to find their sound, Riot Like Words have slowly but confidently progressed into today’s post-hardcore/ rock genre.
"It's so hard to identify or classify your bands individuality without
being bogged down and pigeon holed into a particular genre.
What makes a band stand out is their attitude, work ethic, and
their overall sense of knowledge of what they want to achieve.
Of course you can't forget the music, but the more you know, the
better of a chance you have at success." - Adam Hovey
Riot Like Words has an energetic and alluring on-stage performance, treating their devoted listeners as if each and every day just keeps getting better and better. They have become Austin’s' staple for opening road shows with acts such as Scary Kids Scaring Kids (Immortal Records), June (Victory Records), A Change Of Pace (Immortal Records), Sherwood (Myspace Records) and Letter Kills (Island Records) to name a few.
In addition to their live show, the band boasts an incredible amount of breadth in music theory and audio engineering. Their CD was engineered and mixed at Ohm Recording Facility by synth player Kyle Hughes, who currently engineers at the facility and hopes one day to own his own studio and produce bands.
"I would never want it to be about money, but given the amount
and the resources we had, Kyle delivered a CD that sounds 5 or
6 figure caliber."- Chico Jones (Owner of Ohms Recording Facility.)
During the summer of '07, Riot Like Words embarked on their self-booked East Coast tour, which included stops in 23 states. Their future endeavors include a music video shot and directed with TroubleMaker Studios (filmography for, Sin City, Grindhouse, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Spy Kids) and more national touring. Most importantly, Riot Like Words prides themselves on their "do it yourself" attitude, and thrives on responsibility while holding the maturity to live up to it Especially in trying circumstances. Some might say even with superhuman-like proportions.
