*UPDATE* okay, i'm WAY into G-Love now... and i am renewing my love affair with ska... yup... give me 7 Seconds of Love RIGHT F-IN NOW!!!!
i also enjoy the Indigo Girls, Melissa Etheridge, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Genesis, the Police (c'mon, my name is Roxanne!) Metalica (old stuff, pre 2000), and punk... old stuff like Green Day and, of course, Bad Religion. i can't stand country or rap.... or hip-hop. nothing against those who do; just you won't be finding it on my MP3 player!
Movies
too many good, excellent, and mind-blowing movies to list! some top faves are "what the bleep do we know", "lords of war", "jarhead", the entire x-men series, and more intense movies, like "fallen".
*UPDATE!* I just discovered the satelitte channel cHiLLeR and it's VERY GOOD for all you horror genre fans out there!*
Television
i don't realy watch televison, but i love my satelitte! i watch just about anything on the learning channel, discovery, animal planet, history channel, and of course, adult swim on cartoon network!
Books
anything by David Quammen! but I did just go to Borders today and was seperated from 60$ in less than 5 minutes... god, i have sooo many books, i'm addicted to spending money at Barnes and Nobles. may as well just have a direct deposit there...
Presently reading a wonderfully delightful little book called "*a Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. he also wrote "A Walk in the Woods", a funny recap of him hiking the Appalachian Trail. good readin', peeps.
I am also chewing thru a difficult read, "Rising UP and Rising DOWN, some thoughts on violence, freedom, and urgent needs" by William T. Vollman. difficult because it is written in free-form with creative punctuation... but a mesmerizing read, none the less, so long as you have an interest in ethics and some understanding of Kantian and Hobbesian ethical theories.
and lastly, i am re-reading an old fave... "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. I really ought to get more of her works, i really enjoyed this novel to the very end, and i'm not really a fiction reader. But her way of character development, as well as interspersed notes on natural history and environmental theory just work for me...
Heroes
wow... depends on what you classify as qualifications of a "hero". i guess my mother counts, she was a struggling young woman when she decided to start a family and dealt with alot of hardships... but as far as inspiration, well, hats off to my dad! he's a scientist and a real "earthy" kinda guy... he taught me to s-l-o-w down and take joy in the little things.
my high school arts teacher, Kiki Ganz-Sarto, has been a phenomenal influence on many choices i have made in my life, as well as encouraging my own artistic flair.
and the most positive influence in my life is the man i love, my partner in crime, my best friend and one helluva lover... he has always been there for me, whether i was having a nuclear meltdown or riding the highest crest of joy... love ya for always, Mr. Jan!

About me:
well, i'm a self-taught artist, i love animals, and i can't be off work enough to fully enjoy the beauty of south florida! i went procyonid crazy a few years back (for you regular folks, that's the raccoon family)and i haven't recovered yet!
i recently began going to college, and i love it! it feels so very good to learn again... the only challenge is getting enough time for everything... no time for being lazy in the sun for the next 3 years now!

Who I'd like to meet: well, he's gone now, but Steve Irwin is always my hero, since i saw his first episode on animal planet of croc hunter way back in 1997... he did get a bit loopy towards the end, but i firmly believe that becoming a parent gives you certain rights... like playing with toys not intended for your age group and being a little over-exuberant about common things... bye steve... sniff... sniff
Nice survey. I did have the guts to answer it. Altho now I'll be getting lots of comments from friends and family asking for either details of my answers, or just plain shock that I even answered it. LOLOL Thanks for keeping things interesting. Ya know, if we lived closer, I'd love to go have dinner with ya! I think we'd have a blast.
Your artwork has always been so beautiful....keep it going! You are a talented lady! Maybe someday I'll own one of your great paintings!! Good luck. P.S. I want the one of the puppy!!!!
