I love going to anything and everything. From Foo FIghters to Phantom of the Opera...from Kanye to Michael Buble....from a perfomance at city hall to a movie with Will Ferrell. You never know until you go!! Just do it!
Music
I love going to music venues to see any type of music and love to listen to almost everything {sorry death-heads, just don't dig speedmetal}.
I firmly believe that Jimi Hendrix was a genius!! Definitely one of the most groundbreaking...EVER!
There is way too much new stuff to list that I like.. for instance all my college friends dig STS9, and a gazillion other bands that I have never heard of 'CAUSE RADIO IS DEAD, and for most of it-I gotta admit it is good stuff}
BUT AS FOR WHAT I LOVE: The EELS, Foo Fighters, JaNe's AddIction, Linkin' Park, Rage Against The Machine, Led Zeppelin, Weezer, Cake, Gun's and Roses, Radiohead, the Cure, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Pearl Jam, the BEATLES, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, 70's Van Halen {not the crappy Hagar sh*t} and all kinds of high energy rock, but I also love Common, Wyclef, Kanye, Pharrell, NAS, Snoop, Dre, Ice, Slim Shady and my old shool hero's, Slick Rick, Black Sheep, Nice n' Smooth, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, Stetsasonic, Public Enemy,NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, De La Soul, Marley Marl, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Kwame, Special Ed, Heavy D, Beastie Boys {don't know where to list my love for these three white boys...who knew they would be around 30 years...like Ali G says...RESPECT!} I could go on forever on my love of the old school-It's like when you listen to black music from the 70's, it is a positive message(Ain't No Mountain High Enough...Oh, Child Things Are Gonna Get Easier)..and so on and so on..then in the 80's it was a little more militant but still positive (White Lines....The Message), then NWA changed it all BAM! I dig NWA but the sh*t that is hip hop now is terrible(what the hell does Super Soak that Ho mean..I Know, but EEWW. It's like NAS says..HIP HOP IS DEAD.
oh yeah got to give a shout out to Blackstreet and Troop!!)
I also love the stuff I grew up on. My mom listened to more of the safe tunes from the white culture{some might say of the 50's; Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Bobby Darin, Glenn Miller Band, Dean Martin, the Andrew Sisters, Frankie Valley, and Danny and the Juniors(Let's go to the Hop!)
My dad had a little more soul: Isaac Hayes and the Movement, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Earth, Wind and Fire, Commodores, O'Jays, Sly and the Family Stone, Brother's Johnson {Strawberry Letter 22 is a JAM!!}, not to mention the jazz of Miles Davis, Tommy Dorsey, Vince Guraldi,
classic 70's pop-Queen. ELO, Sweet, The Band, , CSN&Y, Simon and Garfunkel, and all those kick as bubblegum bands-Raspberries!! Pilot!! Bad Finger!! And I do confess I love the Carpenters! Guilty confession; I do love some country-for classic Johnny Cash to Willie "the red-headed stranger" Nelson, and Hank....to Kenny "Mutha-f*ckin" Chesney, Rascall Flatts, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allen, Alan Jackson, Josh Turner, Mark Wells, and the great George Stait. Worse album I ever bought-Rick Springfield, but damn did I like him in high school.
Movies
Shawshank Redemption, Moulin Rouge, Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, Glory, Devil Wears Prada, Field of Dreams, Blues Brothers, Anchorman, K-Pax, LA Confidential, and my all time favorite Casablanca!! "Of all the gin joints in all the world, she walks into mine!"
Television
HBO is definitely the best!! Entourage, Big Love, John from Cincinnati, Curb your Enthusiasm. I also love The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. All time classic-re reuns of price is right with Bob Barker( I like Drew Carey...but, there was only one silver fox!) I also am guilty of loving Family Guy, Futurama, ATHF, Robot Chicken and other nonsense. I also dig Jeapordy! and INTERVENTION.
Books
To Kill a Mockingbird, All The Kings Men, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ringworld, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Hobbitt and The Lord of the Rings (Frodo Lives), The Trumpet and the Swan, GO DOG GO! Green Eggs and Ham, and anything with those amazing Hardy Boys!!
Heroes
ANYONE WHO STANDS UP FOR THE UNDER-PRIVILEDGED AND THE OPPRESSED!!
About me:
I am a native Californian who believes in always trying to be a positive influence in the world. It's not just about making the world a better place for yourself, but trying to make this crazy life a little bit better for all those you come in contact with. That is a belief that both my parents instilled in me as a youngster. My parents were the best that a kid could ever ask for. I lost them both over ten years ago. They had 40 years of a wonderful marriage until God welcomed them home. I know this for sure, if my Moms didn't make it in to heaven, WE DON'T HAVE A CHANCE!! My dad was a little bit more of a wildman, but I hope that my God is a forgiving one and not a vengeful one......
As for me, I fall somewhere in the middle. A little of my mom and a little of my dad. Both of them were avid music listeners and that is something that they definitely shared with me. My mom listened to more of the easy listening standards from the 40's and 50's, whereas my dad loved funk, soul, rock and jazz. As for me, I love so many different styles that my playlist (as you can see) is quite ecclectic. And as cheesy as it might sound, my true friends know that at my final service(death), I actually want them to play Michael Jackson's MAN IN THE MIRROR.
IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE, TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AND MAKE THAT CHANGE!!
ps. check out the poem DESIDERATA .....words to live by every day
Who I'd like to meet: People from all over the world, who are FUN PEOPLE!
I think it would also be awesome to meet all the relatives and people who are in your family tree. I learned from my mother that one of my relatives on her side was knighted by the King of Norway in the 17th century FOR HIS POETRY!! Whenever I am having a bad day, I just think of all the trials and tribulations that they had to go through just to survive! How may times did your relatives have a major battle or obstacle to overcome? Makes you think of how close you may have been to not even getting the greatest gift of all...LIFE! Life is too short, and tommorrow is not promised! That's why the next time you lose your keys, or have a flat, or the cable's out.....RELAX!! IT IS A BEAUTIFUL LIFE {ring ring}!! LEARN TO SHARE IT WITH OTHERS!! DESIDERATA!
What up Rex! I was driving through Knoxville last month and tried to call you - number denied! Hit me up on my cell with your new number. I'm moving out West in August so we'll HAVE to get up either in Vegas or for skiing at my place. Call me brotha.
That sounds "miiiighty tasty." I still haven't been to Vegas, so that sounds like a plan to me. Maybe we can work something out around the end of summer. Hope all is well! Ilian Evtimov is the shit!!
