Restlesslist have been a busy band May 2008 saw the release of the fabulous BUTLIN BREAKS, a single that is perfect for - and typical of- a British Summer! Never boring, Restlesslist have produced something that's short, jaunty and brimming with summer campness. Ennio-esque horns, surf twang, and cinematic aspirations are all recognisable as trademark Restlesslist. The single has been attracting some major radio attention with mulitple plays by Radio Ones Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, Radio Two's Steve Lamacq and BBC Radio 6's Nemone (single of the week) and Mark Riley (whom they also played a live session for, check blog for listen again details for all) who is also using the tune for his new radio 6 show.
This is all great warm up for the major feature of the year... Thats right its the release of the bands debut album "Rise And Fall Of The Curtain Club" dropping into all good record shops and available online from June 8th 2008. The album is already kicking up a storm and has been voted album of the week already by Radio Ones Huw Stephens.
Check the bands label website www.lifeiseasyrecords.com for more details.
"Instrumental gems incorporating circus waltzes, Morricone horns, debauched beats and surferama electronica. You must have RESTLESSLIST IN YOUR LIFE!!!!"
Restlesslist’s development has seen them expanding from roots in bedroom Lo-Fi as a two piece featuring Matt Thwaites (Electric Soft Parade) and Ben Elliot, creating collages from keyboards, guitars, found samples and broken beats, into a full band adding Tom White (Electric Soft Parade and Brakes) and the band Zettasaur.
Restlesslist will appeal to fans of The Brakes and The Electric Soft Parade, but with influences from a host of obscure and mainstream artists including The Books, Anticon Records, The Unicorns, Joe Meek, The Chap and Gorillaz their appeal reaches out to very different audiences as well.
dirty pint
Q Mag, p 113: "RESTLESSLIST is a collective of Brighton-based musicians whose debut The Rise And Fall Of The Curtain Club (Life Is Easy, 3 stars) features 10 mostly funky instrumental tracks. It's like a compilation of B-movie themes.
Hello monkeys. Well done. Lovely music, i miss you all lots. Hope your all well and enjoying the summer and the fun stuff that comes with making good music. hugs tasha xx
From The Chris T-T Blog Matt Twaites’ band Restlesslist are doing Marc Riley’s show on BBC6 Music this evening and Tom is drumming. Restlesslist are storming, doing complex, instrumental psyche prog-pop (spacerock?). Bloody ace... Listen Again (at the start of the show + about 40 mins in)
RESTLESSLIST IN THE ESP BLOG Marc Riley after hearing Butlin Breaks live: I applaud you literally, I mean this, that's got to be one of the records of the year, when it comes through to Christmas and we're putting that programme together with all the best records, I can guarantee that that will be in there…
hey guys, it was great meeting you and playing with you at CMW, hope you got home safe! Unbelievably, we also lost all of our merch at that show, we left it by accident at the venue, and it dissapeared. Curses!
Really enjoyed the set last night, kinda John Zorn/Mr Bungle-esque-ish. Shame more people weren't there to witness. Hopefully we'll get to play Brighton soon, be good to share a stage.
Thanks for Thursday! :) It was ace :) I've not stopped since & now I feel ready to collapse :) yey! Success :) Anyway, Lucy and I shall be joining you in Brighton this coming Friday - I'm sure we'll have a little entourage in tow :) XXXXxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
