Hanging in the cool clique of fashionable London celebs along with designer Henry Holland and models Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn, actress/singer Remi Nicole metamorphosized from a tabloid subject to a respectable Island Records recording artist in 2006.
Feeling unrewarded by her acting role on the British sci-fi comedy series Hyperdrive, the part-English, part-Trinidadian 22 year old, turned to her first passion: music. While still in the learning stages, her first solo album, My Conscience and I, spawned two charting singles "Fed Up" and "Mr. Sunshine." Chalking up this album as tentative record of demos and not a proper debut, she dove into the Motown-by-way-of-London '60s girl group sound popularized by Amy Winehouse for her second album. After creating the bulk of the record in a flat, playing keyboards, guitar, and drums herself, she took it to Grammy-earning producer Mark Taylor to mix it down and polish it up. Cupid Shoot Me was released by Island in August of 2009, and was described by Nicole upon its release as an album about "not being in love." With the release of her first single from the album, "Standing Tears Apart," her success grew, which only made the song "Tabloid Queen" more fitting. ~ Jason Lymangrover
