Birdwatching, plus music, cinema and television. I also play the guitar. I currently spend a lot of my spare time learning the scientific names of all the birds I have seen. Anthus Trivialis anyone?
Music
Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Underworld, Shady Bard, Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol, Muse, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Joe Satriani, Editors, Doves, Sigur Ros, Frank Zappa, Flaming Lips, Arctic Monkeys, Damien Rice, Bloc Party, Richard Hawley plus many, many others including Bret Jazz, of course! Avril Lavigne and Katie Melua are cute...
Movies
Bad Lieutenant, Viva Las Vegas, It's A Wonderful Life, The King Of Comedy, Taxi Driver, The Wicker Man, Lost Highway. Stuff with Neve Campbell [beautiful!], Denise Richards [fascinating!] or Scarlett Johannson in it is good too...
Television
24, Lost, Heroes [before it went pants!], Big Brother, Mountain, Coast, Coronation Street, Prison Break, Nature's Calendar, Northern Exposure, Amazon, Tribe, The Family, The Restaurant, The Apprentice, Hands On Nature, that thing with Alan Titchmarsh in it, the one where that bloke tells you about volcanoes and stuff [fascinating!], Springwatch, Autumnwatch, The Trees That Made Britain [brilliant!]...
Books
My bird books [the black Collins book is the Don Gargon!]...
About me: My name is David Scott and I am 38 years old. My nickname is Reg. I have been interested in birds for a number of years, but I got really serious about birdwatching in 2006. 2007 was a monumental year for me in terms of birding. I bagged 54 lifers and took my life list up to 193 as a result.
I do a lot of birding in the Midlands, particularly at Bittell Reservoirs, Earlswood Lakes and Upton Warren, but I invariably spend a few weeks in Wales each year and also spend the odd weekend or few days further afield. This year I will be spending a long weekend in Devon in February, followed by trips to Norfolk and Suffolk in April, and Scotland in May.
My first goal in 2008 is to get the life list up to 200. Secondly, I have compiled a list of 20 birds that I hope to see during the year, so putting a tick next to each of them is my next target. Beyond that, I am happy to simply enjoy my birding and continue learning more about our feathered friends, hopefully with a few laughs along the way.
And here is my birding 'wish list', comprising 30 species ranging from the achievable to the ridiculous, that I would love to see sometime in the future:
I developed a phobia of moths stemming from my teenage years when the bathroom light was left on all night one night and the window open...the shower was full of about 20 moths in the morning and I got in with them! Eurrrggghhh!!! I don't like the sound of their clunky bodys crashing into the light fittings either...but I'm nearly over it now (I think).
Hello Reg :-) If you want to tick the Black Grouse, then Alston Moor is the place to head for. We have 80% of the population here, I see them most days. Great area for bird watching here in the North Pennines, really is worth the visit. John
I have already thought about this, in fact i searched for a picture of him on the internet to add to my wall of shame but could not find one that i was happy with.
I will look again and add him asap with the obligatory witty remark attached.
Happy New Year to you my friend. I wish you lots of Joy for 2008. Your friendship is a blessing and I am grateful to have you as a friend. Cheers to good health, wealth, and happiness!
My words can’t express how grateful I am to have such a beautiful friend like you! I am overjoyed and filled with the Holiday Spirit this season and I wish you just the same.
Thanks for your kind comment on my new Myspace page - I'm no longer a billy no mates lol....and look, I now have 6 friends (even if one of them is Tom and you are added twice);)
Many thanks Reg, I love spotting new birds myself they are amazing. Top of my wish list are the Osprey and Golden Eagle here in Cumbria, have seen them but as yet no photo's. Best wishes, John
How are you? Hope all is going well with you and you are enjoying your week. I can‘t believe that soon the leaves will be changing color like the photograph below I took in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last September on a birding excursion of mine. The landscape there is breathtaking in person and it makes one appreciate it’s sereneness and this beautiful world we live in.
I am also very honored and grateful to have a friend like you. Have yourself a wonderful upcoming weekend.
Not a fat lot. Was working in a lovely shop in hockely heath but it has closed for a refrub for a long time so on the job search again!
Glad to hear your job at resolution is secure for a bit longer. I miss the free lunch! Frankie has been keeping me updated on all the goings on. Its such ashame, it was a nice place to work!
hello! How are you? thanks for picture comments. Unfortunately I didnt get to see much of bloc party cause my friend fainted a few songs in. How selfish! If I ever release an album this photo will be the cover, I look like a right poser!
I would have liked to had the beautiful bright orange of the Baltimore Oriole in my picture collage to share with you, but I haven’t had luck getting a decent photo of one yet. I will be sure to share it with you once I do. Hope you have enjoyed the gorgeous colors of May and the dawn chorus of our feathered friends as much as I have!
