RED SONYA discovered her passion for electronic music immediately after her move to southern California in 2000. After attending her first massive rave, she bought turntables. A year later, Red Sonya took San Diego by storm, and has not let up since. House music was her first vinyl fetish, yet after years of collecting records, she took her hobby seriously, and her collection quickly grew to include downtempo, trip hop, funk, soul, and drum and bass. But whatever style of music she's playing, whether she's rocking a moving dance floor, or dropping tracks at a sushi lounge, you'll for sure hear funky bass lines.

Red Sonya has performed at various underground events, lounges, and clubs all over San Diego, and beyond. From 2001-6, She was a member of the Vinyl Elements Crew, who organized and promoted "Reaction" together, which ran for over 4 1/2 years @ the Honey Bee Hive, as well as Community, an annual park party that will be remembered for years to come. She also held several weekly & monthly residencies over the years at fave local spots for underground music in San Diego like L5, Red C Lounge, and Kava Lounge. Currently, Red Sonya currently djs at Lady Lush every Thursday at the Airport Lounge, and monthly for "Fresh Cuts" at Harney Sushi in Old Town San Diego every last Saturday of the month. She also Djs at special events presented by Generations and SoCal Selectress. Stay tuned for more upcoming events! Also to be expected soon is the official launch of ..djredsonya.com.
