Yeah I'm in the process of reading it as well as two other books. Typical with those with ADD right? So far it's really interesting. My evolution professor actually gave that book to me as a gift and this is the first time I actually picked it up to read it. We should discuss it when I'm done.
Darwinism has come a long way since Darwin; similarly, Stalinism would be an abomination to Marx.
You really don't understand what Marx's writings are about if you don't know the fundamental differences, even outright contradictions, there. For instance, Marx warns HEAVILY against the revolutionary proletariat becoming a ruling class. Bolshevism, anyone?
Think of the roots of communism. Commune. Community. It's almost an anarcho-syndicalist notion in which people come together and freely associate labor for the common good. It's as much a theory of human potential as economics or politics, and in fact the project is to be totally apolitical in time.
It's very fascinating, and Marx is renowned for the insights of his social critique. It's a shame that people refuse to read him because, historically, his name has been attached to unseemly activities.
Some of your claims about what are consistent with Marx's philosophy are entirely off base. Doubling foreign aid? If anything, a Marxist would send troops to aid the working class in a neighboring nation to overthrow its bourgeoisie class. "Workers of the world, unite!", don'tchaknow. That's what Che Guevara did, for instance, sponsoring coups in South America and Africa.

I listened to your appearance on the radio show (from the youtube video), and you said something that was interesting to me regarding the transition from inorganic to organic materials (though, you didn't say it like that, lols). I have yet, however, to listen to the last twenty minutes (hooray for class), and if you DID say something, then forget this. Anyway, when asked about abiogenesis, you did not respond with the Miller Experiment, or really any of the theories. Why? Have you heard something to make these an invalid generalization, at least when debating? and if so, can you please share. The Miller Experiment is the only one presented here at Davis, but that's not to say that presentation is well thought out.. haha. thanks, Kat
David im gunna be in need of some good reading material in the next couple months, finished The God Delusion a while back, what are some good books that are on the same line ,but different authors. Does Sam Harris write?
Oh sorry about ditching you on AIM earlier. Someone walked in for Chemistry tutoring. And to answer your question, yes, I do know Sylvia. She's my partner in crime.
