| About Priest Da Nomad |
Priest Da Nomad is an incredibly skilled emcee out of the Washington DC area. Priest's main ideology is: "we as everyday, blue collar people matter in society and we will be represented". Although growing up to go-go music, Priest's love has always been the true culture of hip hop. This translates into his live show, in which he shows that he is truly a passionate performer. Priest honed his skills as a master of ceremony as a member and co-facilitator of a well known arts organization called the Freestyle Union. This organization of different crews of emcees was a highly respected community oriented mainstay, at the forefront of the DC arts movement. Workshops were held at universities and at DC and Baltimore public schools.
Priest Da Nomad's first release was a single called "Janeane", in 1997. It received mixshow rotation on WPGC(95.5) and WKYS(93.9), both in DC, in addition to college radio rotation. Subsequent singles and an ep followed until 2001. This discography can be accessed at www.priestdanomad.com. 2005 brought about a full length album entitled, "Mr.Moov Sumthin", with production by Oddisee, Choppy Chope Sounds, The Unknown, and Cyrus. The album has and is still getting stellar reviews from numerous online sites such as www.okayplayer.com, www.couchsessions.com, www.iroster.com, and many more. He is part of an indie collective along with Storm the Unpredictable, and Poem-cees, called SPP. The SPP Waxworks label has been successfully releasing 12inch vinyl singles, known as the "3 Piece Extra Mumbo Eps", each volume hitting number 1 on the U.S./Canada college internet radio rap singles charts in 2005.
Priest is also the subject of a supplemental textbook about the art of improvistion and the historical and cultural role of the emcee. The book, by Dr.William E. Smith,PH.D, is titled "Hip Hop as Performance and Ritual: A Biography and Ethnography in Underground Hip Hop"(www.clspublications.com).
2006 brought many more acolades and reviews, as well as appearances on compilation projects with other DC Soul artists such as Raheem Devaughn, W. Ellington Felton, etc. for the Habitat For Humanity nonprofit. In 2007 Priest, along with his SPP collective's album, released "Have A Nice Day!", which is just a collective of songs from all 3 entities. Stay tuned in 2008 as Priest Da Nomad prepared to release "The Ozone Project", guaranteed to make a formatible contribution to Hip Hop History!!
