Promote a sense of community among GLBTI citizens of the Greater Lafayette area,
develop and publicize resources targeted to the needs of our community,
facilitate communication among GLBTI organizations in the area and
provide a supportive, welcoming venue for newcomers.
About Us: History, Vision & Mission History
Since 1998, a conglomeration of community organizations in Lafayette have come together to host the Pride Lafayette booth at pride events in Indianapolis. After the 2000 event, those assisting with the booth expressed a desire for the participating organizations to stay in contact and continue to associate with one another more closely.
In July 2000, the Pride Lafayette email discussion list was introduced to facilitate communication among local gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) organizations and other community members seeking information about events and resources in the area.
In August 2002, after another successful Pride Lafayette booth at the Indy Pride Fayre, some individuals decided it was time to develop Pride Lafayette as an organization. Since then, the organization has developed into a full-fledge non-profit organization with a group of dedicated volunteers ready to serve the community.
Vision:
Pride Lafayette seeks to become the premier link to the Greater Lafayette GLBTI community. We hope to build bridges within the community and forge new bonds among young and old, life-long residents and newcomers, and citizens living on both sides of the Wabash. We want to celebrate the strength and diversity of our community, and we wish to foster an increased sense of well-being in the lives we touch.

Our volunteer group is the core of our organization. By volunteering, you will be able to give something back to the community. We are always needing new volunteers, so please come help us out. Send us an email at volunteercoordinator@pridelafayette.org and we'll add you to our volunteers email list. Or just drop by during our next meeting at the community center. Check the calendar for times.
Here are some ways you can help:
1. Programming. We need people to help us plan and organize our events and activities. Do you have a knack for hosting parties, spicing up an event with a creative idea, or do you you just enjoy bringing people together to have a good time? Then maybe you should be helping us with programming.
2. Fundraising. Are you a good salesperson, a good talker, and know how to pursuade people? Or are you someone who is willing to give your time to help work a fundraising event, such as parking cars at Purdue home football games? Then consider helping us with fundraising.
3. Service. We sponsor a number of service activities throughout the year. These activities help others in the community and gets our name out there as a positive presence within the area.
4. Publicity. Do you have skills in desktop publishing? Or do you like to post flyers? Or how about talking to others to spread the word? All of these things are needed for our publicity. It's critical that people out there become aware that we exist and that they know what we have to offer.
5. Community Center. We can always use volunteers to help with the upkeep of the community center. Do you do windows? Vacuuming? Decorating? Or are you a good host who can create a welcoming presence? Let us know!
6. Techonology. Are you a computer geek or a techno wizard? Can you manage a discussion list or design web pages? What about help maintain a computer system? It's the 21st Century, so an organization like ours has to be able to keep up with technology. Let us know what skills you have to offer, and we will almost certainly have a way for you to help.
7. Other possibilities....they are endless. Just drop us a line at volunteercoordinator@pridelafayette.org and we'll figure out a way you can help.
