In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent the Most Merciful
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, the one and true God to whom all praise is due forever. Indeed all praise is for Allah, we praise him, we ask for his help and for his forgiveness. Whomever Allah guides, then none can lead him astray, and whomever Allaah misguides, then none can guide him.
I bear witness That Muhammed - blessings and peace be upon him, is his messenger and the seal of all the prophets, I also bear witness to Abraham, Moses, Jesus (Peace Be Upon Them) and all the Beautiful Prophets that Allah has sent to Guide mankind, so in the name of Allah I would like to greet all of you with the Islamic greetings of peace” As Salaam Alaikum”.
Poetic Pilgrimage are an exciting up-and-coming female hip hop and spoken-word duo set to take the world by storm with their fresh sound, intelligent lyrics and courageous characters. They are a rare act, being one of the few Muslim female outfits around and are unafraid to express themselves through the art of rhyme, covering personal and social issues without compromising their Islamic faith.
Muneera Rashida and Sukina Abdul Noor have been performing together as Poetic Pilgrimage for 5 years. The early part of their career saw them as favorites on the London poetry circuit where they performed alongside some of the biggest names often to standing ovations. Whether it be lamenting about the injustices in society or confronting infidelity these two young women spoke to the hearts of their audiences who were intrigued by their strength and skills.
They also performed at various hip-hop events in and around London and in 2004 put out a successful compilation CD called Rebel Muzik which featured many of London’s finest rappers all united in their love for conscious thought provoking music.
On June 16th 2005 Sukina and Muneera bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and testified that Muhammed (May Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him) is the final Messenger of Allah. They decided to stop doing music for a while and engaged in prayer and purified their intentions until they felt the time was right.
The Islamic rap group Mecca 2 Medina expressed an interest in Poetic Pilgrimage and they were managed by Rakin from M2M who financed the release of two CDs.
The first Pilgrims Love the Prophet is a 10 track poetry and spoken word album containing poems such as Two Witnesses that speaks of their journey to Islam as well as Pilgrims Love the Prophet that speaks of their love for the Messenger of Allah and their pilgrimage to find him.
They also released a 6 track Hip Hop EP called Something You Never Expected where these two ‘Hip Hop chicks that spit Islamic’ crafted their unconventional skills into a fine art which is refreshing, original, intellectual and soulful expanding within the genre of Hip Hop and beyond.
They have performed at various Islamic events Such as Living Islam in 2005 where they performed to over 3,000 people, the Mawlid organized by Q News to over 5,000 people as well as events organized by and Mecca 2 Medina. They recently performed at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to mark the end on a year long exhibition called Art and Islam and were themselves featured in Peter Saunders photography exhibition called the Art of Integration.
Far from being one dimensional artists they have also performed to non-Muslim audiences where they have received much acclaim such as an event called Love Music Hate Islamophobia at Westminster University, the Festival of Resistance in Bloomsbury as well as a monthly event that they co-ordinate called Rebel Muzik.
They have also received much media attention; they have been featured in the The Times, Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram, South African newspaper Muslim Views, Emel Magazine and Hip Hop Connection.
They have also appeared on the Asian arts program Desi DNA on BBC2, the critically acclaimed Muslim Jesus on ITV1 and Behind the Veil on Islam Channel and on radio channels such as BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 4 and they were interviewed live on Chicago Radio Islam
The future seems bright for these young women feel that they are only at the start of their ‘Pilgrimage’ and have much more work to do. They and are fully charged with the talent, enthusiasm and energy necessary for them to cross over into various markets and scenes as well as remaining true to their roots.
Who would I compare them too? Umm thats a hard one. In truth no one but if I had to compare them I would say they are like a Hip Hop version of Les Nubians

TO MY WARRIORS, PROPHETS, PEACEMAKERS AND ANGELS-The evil men for many moons have sought to destroy our kind. They have destroyed our temples, they have burned our books, they have burned our bodies, they have buried us alive, but more than this, they have tried to create a world that makes us irrelevant or so bizarre in the eyes of the masses that we are unable to be seen for what we are. Imagine Jesus the Christ (I am not religious) floating down from the clouds in his promised return - imagine how fucking weird that looks against the plastic castles and poison pools of this world. Would it be broadcast on CNN? All of the "system" is designed to trap the prophets and angels like the sticky threads of a spider web. They have not succeeded. We are more powerful. In the 1970's in the city of New York, an anointed culture resistant to their usual weapons emerged. The holy tribe of Hip hop was born. This ultra modern movement created a bridge between the ancient world and ours. Hip hop gives a context for the resurrection of the old medicine people, ways and warriors. The survival and evolution of humanity is dependent on the health of Hip hop. We who have been called need to give it everything we got!-THE TIME IS NOW, Tsunami

Poetic Pilgrimage->A STORY-I find myself upon a jagged and rocky PATH in a seemingly barren LAND-My feet are NAKED and I am holding a SACRED infant in my arms, we are wrapped in ONE cloth-From behind a rock a creature neither female nor male, but some kind of ANGEL appears-The creature speaks-"You-mortal woman, what are you doing in this land, you do not belong here?-How did the child come into your HANDS, you did not bare that being?"-I reply-"There are many SECRETS kept even from the Angels-I have long ago stopped asking how I came to be here-It is that I am-This baby is in my care and my arms the child will not leave until our destination reached-You creature should bless my travels and thank THE MOST HIGH you were not chosen-I have known much BLOOD-Now clear the trail-I must MOVE ON-To be continued... SMOKE SIGNALS, Tsunami
