DJs Robert Drake (of WXPN fame) and Marilyn Thomas resurrect the vibe by mixing up The Cure, Siouxsie, Love & Rockets, Bauhaus and almost always a little Joy Division. October 18 2006: Halloween’s a time for fantasies—a chance to dress up (or down) and be someone other than your own sorry ass. These events have that idea at heart and allow me two of my own fantasies: naked hipster girls and the chance to be Robert Smith for a night. The Suicide Girls Burlesque Tour takes its grrl erotica off the Web and brings it to you live. The show harks back to the ’40s and ’50s, when stripping was more artistic. Expect lots of nudity, awkward dancing and a sense of connection between the audience and performers (in a noncreepy, empowering way). At Fluid there’ll be a lot more clothes, as Robert Drake’s Sex Dwarf party celebrates Halloween, ’80s style. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite New Wave artist, which could make for a frightening scene. That Flock of Seagulls dude, anyone?
