About me:
A quick story as told by a classmate: On January 25, 1985, a great man was born—and that man’s name was Mark McArthur. Mark McArthur is a man known for his steely eyes and his iron fist. At an early age, he proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with.
One day in third grade, young Mark was playing on the playground in his native city of Elmhurst, Illinois. A boy named Lee Hayes had the audacity to shove Mark into the mud. Mark proceeded to chase Lee around the playground. When Mark caught the boy, he picked up a glass bottle and punched him in the face with it, killing him instantly. After six years at a correctional facility in Joliet, he was released on parole at age 14.
Several years later, his early combat experience allowed him to devise his own ways to stop violence in the streets. One day in Chicago, he found himself being shot at on his ex-girlfriend’s front porch. Armed thugs were chasing a man running down the street that tried to turn and run across the porch, and Mark was caught in the crossfire. Any normal man would have stood idly by, or gone inside and hid behind a sofa. Not Mark, however. He stood up, lifted a porch swing with superhuman force, and clotheslined the man as he ran up the steps. For thwarting the man's escape from the gang, Mark is now an honorary member of The Crips.
Mark is a man who loves his alcohol. His drink of choice is an amaretto stone sour, and he would rather drink pig's blood than listen to the Rolling Stones (he's a Beatles fan, of course). He came to SIU after successfully graduating from the College of Dupage. The city of Dupage, however, is still recovering from shortages of hard liquor and condoms since Mark's departure.
Mark left his RT 383 class on the first day, just like the rest of his classmates. To show his dissatisfaction with being stood up, he went and played racquetball at the Rec Center. Anyone can go to the Rec center and play raquetball to vent their frustrations--but only Mark could do it using a live hamster instead of a ball. It started out as a live hamster, anyhow.
These great feats are only the tip of the iceberg. The legend of Mark McArthur will live on for generations, both at SIU and abroad.
