The members of Pert' Near came to this music through a variety of ways, and have played many different styles in other bands. Local Minnesota music has been, by far, our greatest influence. We are happy to have good friends across many genres in a community that is supportive and cooperative. See our individual profiles for specific influences. Also check out other Minnesota acts. There is a wealth of great folk, blues, jazz, rock, and a local legacy we are honored to be a part of.

Pert' Near Sandstone is a hard-driving stringband from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Gathered round an old-timey microphone, the boys play well-crafted original stringband material, as well as being purveyors of many songs from the old-time and bluegrass traditions. They are a riot to see live--this ain't no shirt and tie bluegrass music--this is high-octane, gritty, stringband music that's sure to get you outta your seat and keep you dancing all night... With the release of their newest album, "Up and Down the River" the boys are taking their music out on the rivers and roads of the country to continue the revitalization of the American stringband tradition.

You guys rocked the Newton Hills Ho Down. Kevin's Banjo was hot, Jeff was jammin' Nate's mando and fiddle was on fire, Jay's guitar licks rocked, and Andy's feet were flyin'
