Peace For London combines some of London's finest urban talent teaching, rhyming and shouting out the truth. The people of London came together after the bombings in a unique stand of unity and peace and this CD is a testament to their strength and a wake up call to the elements in our society that are seeking to divide what is the most culturally diverse city on the planet. ![]() Peace Not War has become reknown for producing and showcasing some of the best political commentaries put to rhythm and this mix CD is another stomping soundtrack for a generation of Londoners and citizens living within a sphere of violence and receeding freedoms. This CD is a purely grassroots production with tracks contributed from the cream of London's protest musicians. Released : 18/03/06 Peace Not War - Volume Two
THE PAST THREE YEARS HAVE PROVOKED THE MOST PROLIFIC PERIOD OF PROTEST MUSIC IN HISTORY, widely heard thanks to computer and Internet technology - first designed by the American military and now crucial tools used by activists to organise globally. The hundreds of anti-war song submissions for this new compilation demonstrate the power of "bedroom studio" technology. Some of the low-budget recordings blew away the producers and were selected for the compilation ahead of "signed" musicians. THE DOUBLE ALBUM WAS PRODUCED IN LONDON BY A FEW MUSICIANS AND ACTIVISTS with a small but international network of volunteers. The lyrics are radically critical of the Bush-Blair-Howard war machine, but consistently insist on peaceful forms of resistance. THE CD COVER IS PURPLE AND GREEN - THE COLOURS OF THE GREENHAM COMMON WOMEN'S PEACE CAMP – TO SYMBOLISE NONVIOLENCE. "We need to get creative in our resistance and perhaps do nonviolent direct action. If the 2 million protesters in Hyde Park on February 15th 2003 had gone to US bases instead – sitting on the runways at Fairford or damaging radars at Menwith Hill - we could have perhaps stopped the war. The UK, more than any other country, has the power to create peace." Released : 04/10/04 Paris

![]() The Peace Not War CD has grown from a burned-CD production in an East London living room to a double-album with American, Australian and UK bands as diverse as Ms Dynamite, Ani DiFranco, Public Enemy, Asian Dub Foundation and a reformed Crass, distributed by Shellshock in 18 countries and raising over £20,000 for UK peace groups. A simple idea became an international production through the support given by so many musicians, managers and record companies, who each waived their royalties. The War On Terror marks the rebirth of protest music, far more prolific than the recordings of the Vietnam era. BILLY BRAGG: "Protest music was prematurely declared to be unfashionable: hearing these songs might help people who feel ambiguous about it make a conscious decision to oppose the war." CRASS: "There is no time for people to become complacent and withdraw - this is just the beginning." The Peace Not War CD is as grass roots as it gets: produced and funded by Australian musicians Kelly and Mudge, with help from a handful of friends but without any support from an organization. Their independence has meant that the broad spectrum of peace groups could be fairly funded and radical lyrical content could not be censored, although their lack of resources has been challenging. With no record label and no promotional budget, the word had to be spread by peace groups, and by DJs and stores who simply liked the music and the cause. JOHN PILGER: "The Peace Not War CD is vital to the grass roots opposition to war, conquest and occupation. Censorship of anti-war music by the BBC, MTV and other media is all the more reason for doing it yourself." Released : 20/05/03 Friends of Peace Not War
