the year 1928; the event: long sullen nights spent spinning to certain death in a straw sports car, while trying to keep chimpanzees on the gin. As they say in Cairo "the best end of a cigar is wasted as soon as the match is struck".
"TROPICAL FAVOURITES" THE ALBUM OUT NOW ON S.L RECORDS!!
PAUL VICKERS AND THE LEG
A NEW SUPER GROUP IS BORN-LETS MEET THE GUYS:
Paul Vickers:
A seasoned veteran as the lead singer of "Dawn of the
Replicants". Where he occupies the role of central
songwriter and frontman, playing his part in creating
five albums over a 10 year period.
He has recorded five peel sessions for legendary Radio
One DJ John Peel, as well as numerous sessions for
everything from huw stephens on radio one, the much
missed Greater London Radio, marc riley and a live
session at Abbey Road. His songs have been playlisted
on x.f.m and b.b.c 6 Music.
Live credits include Glastonbury, Reading, T in the
park and South by South West in Austin,Texas. The
Replicants have toured around Britain many times
sharing bills with clinic,Spiritualized and Arab Strap
over the years.
Paul has appeared on T.V. via M.T.V's 120 minutes and
alternative nation , plus Mark Lamars 'Edinburgh
Nights' and I.T.V's "the chart show".
"dawn of the replicants" notched up three hits with
the cracking singles "Candlefire" and "Hogwash farm"
plus debut album "One head, Two arms, Two legs".
Replicant's records have been released all over the
world including Japan, France and Germany. The
Replicants were voted best new band in Britian by the
Times newspaper, they enjoyed being single of the week
twice in N.M.E, once in melody Maker as well as record
of the week on Mark Radcliffs daytime Radio One show.
vickers has a back catalog of over 400 songs and is a
tireless workaholic song factory day and night.
what the press say about Paul:
"much of the magic stems from frontman paul vickers, a
lovable gonk/da vinci of lyrical invention"
mojo magazine.
And The Leg:
The Leg is the latest project showcasing the song
writing talents of chameleon fire breed Dan Mutch.
Previous umbrella organizations for Dan's talents have
included 'Khaya' and 'Desc'.
The accolades of The Leg/Desc/Khaya include being
championed by Steve Lamacq, John Peel and Jo Whiley.
Recording two sessions for John Peel and playing live
on Radio Scotland and bbc tv.
the band khaya produced three highly acclaimed albums
and in more recent times desc recorded an album with
Steve Albini the world famous producer behind seminal
recordings by Nirvana, The Pixies and P.J Harvey.
dans trusted shipmate and fellow Legite cellist Pete
Harvey is the only true survivor apart from Dan to
feature in all three bands. Pete is a classically
trained cellist and at a moment’s notice can perform
anything from "the marriage of Figaro" to "West Side
Story" in fact that’s exactly what he does as part of
the Rose Street Quartet. Pete has also worked with the
legendary Damo Suzuki, lyricist with German pioneers
Can.Pete recently finished working with jonathan
mills on a rewrite of his opera "the eternity man" for
a film version directed by julian temple.
He is proud of the fact he once played carols at john peels christmas party.
The third member of the leg is the hard working
percussionist / drummer Alun Thomas, a local character
and true one off in every sense of the word. Alun has
also played with 'thomas truax', 'Ballboy', ‘Desc’ and
'Saint Judes Infirmary'. Together they are an exotic
some would say almost tropical mix.
They have toured Holland, Germany and America. Their
live show involves sparklers, skeleton make up and a
shrunken Tina Turner voodoo doll. They received high
praise in the press from N.M.E, Q Magazine and the
Scotsman to name a few. Much like Paul Vickers they’re
true veterans and they always deliver the goods.
What the press say about the leg:
“Sonic alchemists with pop magic dancing from their
fingertips”

Manchester's Amida have been compared to both the Pixies and the Magnetic Fields - due in part to their ability to wrench catchy pop from dark subject matter. This is exemplified on their debut mini-album 'Arts and Crafts' which, rattling through six tracks in under 13 minutes, has been described as "a masterclass in pop economy".
Pushing shiny pop hooks to a lo-fi aesthetic, the Just Joans create tales of heartache and teenage longing in small town Caledonia. Is This Music described their debut album (Last Tango In Motherwell) as "frankly staggering", and probably the best album of that year. This was followed by two mini-albums on the rather lovely Wee POP label: Virgin Lips and Hey Boy, You're So Sensitive.
The Occasional Flickers' main songwriter Giorgos Bouras recorded debut album 'Scattered Songs' in his native Greece. But it wasn't until he relocated to Greece and put together a new live band that the music truly felt at home. Imbued with the lyrical wit of Belle and Sebastian, but delivered in the off hand style of the Pastels - they're the best Scottish pop band to ever come out of Greece. Or maybe the best Greek pop band in Scotland. Either way, they're not to be missed.
Please come down to the Admiral this Thursday, to see Beeg Hog, a 9 piece instrumental ambient construction perform a musical portrayal of travel, in aid of an African School charity, Africa 08. £5 in, + Ross and Mahiri are involved as well, also Angeltapes and a dj.
Oooh - I just switched on the Tom Robinson show and he was half way through playing "Wild Geese". Sounds good on the radio, lads. He was claiming Mr Albini produced it, mind.
Add a little Beefheart to your mincepies this season with The Stark Palace's new Christmas crowd-pleaser, 'Saw What Your Momma Did (Under The Mistletoe)'. I've also uploaded a bunch of other new songs plus a new mix of 'CroMagnon Man'.
