About me:
John C. Paulson (see also myspace.com/johnpaulsonjazzgroup for music clips- or www.paulsonjazz.com) Dr. John Paulson is currently a professor of music at Saint Mary’s University where he has taught for the last 25 years. As director of the Music Industry program at Saint Mary’s, Dr. Paulson heads the music business track and developed the unique music technology program. While on sabbatical in 2002, he founded the ongoing Music Access For All program dedicated to helping disadvantaged children in the Winona area gain access to music instruments and lessons. Dr. Paulson earned his B.M. and Master of Music degrees from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and his D.M.A. in music education from the University of Washington in Seattle. His quartet has performed“live” on Minnesota Public Radio broadcast from the Sheldon Theater in Red Wing, MN and he has performed numerous times at venues in the Twin Cities. This fall, the John Paulson/Larry Price Quintet performed at the Lakes Art Center in Lake Okoboji, Iowa. Their music was featured along with a presentation by noted jazz researcher Bob DeFores who worked on the Ken Burns history of jazz series on PBS. The group’s CD “Mobley Street Blues” was released the in 2005 and it is getting airplay on regional jazz stations. Dr. Paulson’s commercial jazz CD’s have received excellent reviews throughout the Midwest and they are available at www.cdbaby.com or from iTunes. He has also published articles and produced four Master class CDs of his original compositions for The Saxophone Journal and Jazz Player magazine. His latest recording project with the faculty eBand was featured in the Nov/Dec. 2006 issue of the Saxophone Journal and the commercial release of that project titled “Way Out” is now available. In April 2008, he will present a paper and be on a panel at the SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States) Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference this year is dedicated to the life and works of one of Dr. Paulson’s teachers Dr. Vladimir Ussachevsky.
