Influences
Sounds LikeI'll stumble across a hidden gem like Our Lady of Bells ... and be completely blown away.

-Rick Pierik (owner, Nine Mile Records)

If this music were a person it would lay stone paths to the garden in its yard on the weekends. It would hang the laundry out to dry barefoot in the front yard. It would roll down grassy hills.

-Christopher Wilkey (Northeast Performer Magazine)

If you're looking to be spellbound...[this] folk-rock quartet can hush a room with their sparse songs built from cascading acoustic and electric guitars, piano, and male and female vocals.

-Ken Maiuri (Pedro the Lion, King Radio, School for the Dead, Mark Mulchahy, the Mammals...)

The entire album is divine, from the quiet harmonies to the plaintive guitar twangs. My heart gets caught in my throat at least once every time; more if I'm really paying attention.

-Kelsey Flynn (DJ, WRSI 93.9FM The River)

If you like nice neat labels for your music, then buy Our Lady of Bells' Forgetting the Way Home and place the CD safely in the indie-folk chamber pop section of your library under the sub-category of "Current Favorites."

-nooneisawake.blogspot.com

Our Lady of Bells is quite masterful at creating a dreamlike ambiance with their music. The group clearly enjoys crafting surreal moods.

-David Ryan Polgar (Northeast Performer Magazine)

All the right cymbal crashes, piano key pleading and singing strings evoke heartaches, heartstrings, and other typical heart-related imagery, but the songs rise above clichés and put the folk-pop quintet on a promising path behind Kings of Convenience, Belle and Sebastian, and Okkervil River.

Our Lady of Bells makes deep, elegant sounds that stay stuck in your head for days. The band's 2006 full-length debut Forgetting the Way Home captured their high-wire balancing act of ecclecticism and cohesion in a collection of songs that has already made it into many a permanent rotation. 2005-2007 was a whirlwind of great shows, national radio play, raves from bloggers and the mainstream press and an incredible US tour. In the face of all this forward momentum, however, the fickle, wandering ways of life intervened in the summer of '07, splitting the band up geographically and making it very difficult to find the time to record or tour. The band now finds itself on "extended hiatus." Check back here and at www.ourladyofbells.com every once in a while for any breaking news. Spontaneous reunion shows are likely to be likely from time to time.

I have officially requested to my friends and family that OLoB comes and plays "ghost" and "lace" and "with my eyes" at my funeral if i die soon.

watch me get in a car "accident", you guys would totally be obligated to form up, and truck down here and play music to my body, the plan is flawless!

alright! so the little break was fun right? time to start recording more. lucas has too many lyrics memorized, and too many songs learned on various instruments. no excuses, except for explosive gonorrhea, but of course thats always an acceptable excuse.

I found the art hospital again, I live about a mile from it. I don't think its changed at all. That is, only 2% of Bloomington knows it exists.

At least I can wear my Our lady of bells tshirt here and not be a fool, right? Maybe not.

nothing alittle MAOI inhibitor wont cure.
what i strive for in life,is to be in a room looping our lady of bells and sleeping on a mound of prozac.
maybe you guys should keep making music huh? then i wouldnt only have to loop this one album, i could loop many, and thus my life would be complete.

oh yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhh..

Jul 9 2007 4:12 AM

i am still yet to come across a hurdle in life that cannot be leaped over by locking my brain away in a room echoing "With my eyes".
