As a member of the Junglist Platoon Crew in Los Angeles and a resident at LA’s (and one of the nation’s) longest running weekly drum n bass club, Respect, DJ Clutch is a solid staple in the SoCal drum n bass scene. He has rocked the decks at all types of drum n bass shows from massives to clubs to various one-offs. His talents have taken him from LA to San Diego to Denver to Miami and beyond. His style is undefinable as he is able to rock a wide range of drum n bass styles from tech-rollers to dub influenced drum n bass.
Dj Clutch is a Junglist Platoon founding member, DJ Clutch, AKA Steven Valenzuela, experienced the club sounds of break beat techno spun by the pioneer D.J.s of the L.A. jungle scene, R.A.W., CRS, & Oscar Da Grouch. Over time his focus turned from clubbing to promoting the music with his fellow Junglist Platoon brethren while collecting & spinning the vinyl that fueled the movement. Many crews have come & gone in Los Angeles over the past few years yet Clutch and the Platoon have maintained their presence and influence on the L.A. scene. After the addition of a few key members to the crew in 1998, club RESPECT was established in 1999. RESPECT continues to be L.A.s longest running jungle club. Sharing a rotating residency at RESPECT with No Face, Scooba, Machete, Drone, and Oscar Da Grouch. DJ Clutch has played along side the likes of Grooverider, Bailey, and Dom and Roland to name a few. Look out for studio productions with engineer Sense on the Cal-Tek and Ridem labels.
