Albuquerque, NM, indie rock band Of God and Science started out as the duo of songwriter Matthew Dominguez and bassist Jeremy Fine, who played open-mike nights while adding and subtracting other players.
Keyboardist/guitarist Julian Martinez became the third permanent member after returning from the East Coast, where he had contributed to the film The Girls Room and had worked with Rodeo Boy and Bright Eyes. The quartet was completed in 2006 with the addition of drummer Ryan Martino, a veteran of the Albuquerque music scene who had worked with Flake, an early version of the Shins, and who made his own solo recordings, including The Coloured Fields. Before that, in 2004, Of God and Science joined other local bands in founding Detach Records. The group worked on its debut for the label during 2006 and emerged on May 1, 2007, with a self-titled CD. ~ William Ruhlmann
