No Montage's Blurbs |
About me:
Local filmmaker Chris Robinson (The Briefcase, The Crying Artist) and former
Mercury arts editor and filmmaker Justin W. Sanders (The Day Schindler
Pissed in Hitler's Eyes, The Toothbrush War) have joined forces on a
feature-length project that could only have happened in Portland, OR.
The Faithful tells the story of Aaron, a young man living a life that feels
old. Stuck in a dead-end job managing a cell phone store, caught between his
overbearing mother (Kristin Coleman) and his overbearing fiancée (Ladawn
Sheffield), Aaron goes to church each Sunday, takes counsel from his rather
odd minister (Pierre Brulatour), and eats nightly dinners in front of the
TV. Before the credits roll, his perceptions will be altered, his faith will
be shaken, and his mundane world will be forever changed by the arrival of a
strange and fascinating girl named Alice (Brenda Arellano).
Shot on virtually no budget in October of 2005, The Faithful is a shining
realization of the Portland film scene's collaborative potential. Having
formed their new production company, No Montage, Robinson and Sanders spent
months recruiting and organizing a dedicated cast and crew who would be
willing to volunteer on a large-scale project by two virtually untested
filmmakers. As if that wasn't enough, the duo had a seemingly outlandish
plan: to shoot the principal footage for their 80-minute film... in one
week's time. Many who initially expressed interest in the project, including
several film professionals, backed out on the grounds that such a feat was
impossible. But many were also intrigued, and those who stuck around found
themselves part of something magical: a legitimate, accomplished
feature-length movie that truly was shot in a week.
