THE EVENING MUSE…
I’m certain the time will come when I look back nostalgically on the night when I - insomniac that I am - laid awake in the embrace of some song that tormented my soul and held me captive as I followed it through the dark alleyways of memory. Music does that to me – it has the power to make me weep uncontrollably, laugh outrageously, twist shamelessly. I can close my eyes and literally inhabit the precise moment in time when I first heard the melody, felt the rhythm pierce my flesh and take up residence in my consciousness. It is a living thing that I am able to occupy…to burrow down into and lose myself in only to be beguiled by some delicious fiction I have accepted as truth. The particular song, this particular night, was the impetus that created what shall now be called: “The Evening Muse” – a detailed examination and analysis of the genesis of a composition, both lyric and music…the story behind the song. The idea actually took shape while I was completing work on my most recent album, ‘Familiar Addiction’, and had taken on a life of its own in the form of a journal that chronicled the process of writing songs for and recording the second CD. It has evolved from ‘my-journal’ to MySpace.
So, it begins…
I do not presume to have even the most remote level of expertise in the craft of songwriting; my motive is purely cathartic in nature and perhaps a touch self-indulgent. Me talking out loud…working my way through my own messes and attempting to sift through the debris looking for clues and trying to identify my dysfunction among the fragments. That’s all really. I invite you in. There is no magic here – only such as one may find cloaked in the wonder of our missteps and frailty, inadequacies and random passions. Beauty and utter bullshit…the roots of inspiration.
Each week, I will feature a particular song. I invite you to listen to it, read the lyrics…STUDY the lyrics. Examine them to find something that touches you, speaks to you. Leave a comment, send a message…respond in any way you wish.

Hi Noa, Of the thousands of You Tube music videos, you have managed to pick a really fine assortment. Lyle Lovett doing the Townes Van Zandt song is sweet!
Hi Noa, summer has been fun so far. With Jarrett here though music takes a back seat. We are out windsurfing and fishing. Des has tunred the house into a 5 star restaurant, she is absolutely digging into better and better dishes. Kinda fun, what's for dinner tonight? How is your summer been so far, I know you have been busy! I hope the gig in Nashville will bring you the deserved recognition! Big hug Sven
