A:This is not your 1970's Roller Derby... it is the revival!
Roller Derby is a sport played on a flat track, by bad ass girls with skates on.
Q: Who owns this sports team? Are you under management like a major sports team?
A: Built on the foundation of "for the Skaters, by the skaters" the Roller Derby revival is Fast, Hard, and Loud. It is DIY, and the attitude and the heart and soul of Punk Rock.
Skate Free or Die Rollergirls are the only league in NH that is Skater Owned and Operated in the true spirit of this bad ass Roller Derby revival!
Some people are in to starting a roller derby to make $$$, those leagues who are managed by people trying to make a buck have never succeeded. WE ARE NOT THAT KIND OF LEAGUE. We are a not for profit League who uses their leagues earning and put them back into the community through charitable donations and into bringing NH high quality roller derby entertainment!! Every girl in the league works overtime to volunteer their time and energy into the running of the league. It's a beautiful thing...

Q: Is Roller Derby fake like wrestling?
A: No. Roller Derby is a real sport! Like Rugby, or table tennis. Like wresting, however, the fun, competitive, and aggressive nature of the sport lends itself well to rink side theatrics and drama that has nothing to do with the sport. This just adds to the fun and spectacle that is Roller Derby!! Roller Derby is as real as our bruises... (ask any rollergirl to show you her bruises and I'm sure they will... just don't be a creep about it!)
Q: Does size matter?
A: No! One of the greatest things about roller derby is that whatever size/shape you are you are at an advantage!
Q: What if I'm really little? Don't you have to be big and burly to be in Roller Derby?
A: No way! The smaller girls are, generally speaking, the faster girls and are usually placed in the Jammer position as team scorers. They are squirrelly, quick, and easy to whip around the rink, and generally fall down less, since they have a lower center of gravity.
Q: What if I'm really big? Don't you have to be athletic and in shape to be in Roller Derby?
A: Get out of here! Big girls are hard to push around and make for great blockers. Skating on a Roller Derby team will most likely get you in the best shape of your life!
Q: What if I haven't been on skates since Junior High? Don't I have to be a great skater to even attempt Roller Derby?
A: Nope. A lot of us haven't been on skates for years. Some of us, not at all. We will all start out at different skill levels, but at our practices we teach everyone the skills to skate Derby Style. New skaters go though training programs. Don't worry, just wear your protective gear and take it slow at first! Don't be too scared by the term "tryouts." Being a derby girl is a lot more than just being a good skater; although we will primarily be looking for basic skating skills, we also look at your potential as a derby girl.
