I'm bound for the hills
Where cool waters flow
On this road that will take me home.
Music
"He's got the most eclectic mix of crap ever in Thwaite Hall."
There's too much for me to talk about in this department, with my iTunes recording 105 genres, and 207 artists from all corners of the world. Many others can attest to that.
Here's the few of the many who have my ears' heart. Or my heart's ears. Or whatever:-
CURRENT READING PROJECT: Tasso's Aminta, the Rosarium Philosophorum
Not much to talk about here, as I believe in writing books as compared to reading them. With over 400 poems hidden away in my computer cache, waiting for the moment of publication (or my passing, which means someone else will have to publish them) and uni work which involves heavy, extensive reading, it's unsurprising why I have little to say here.
Nonetheless, I often am an ub3r-sucker for anything which my friends throw at me and tell me that they are worth a read on those days when I am running at 20% and nearly D.O.A. Provided of course, that I still don't have a mind of my own left by then.
At those times when I had a mind of my own, I discovered quite a lot of good books myself, and so I can recommend...
King Rat (Clavell) : don't laugh, but I absolutely love how Clavell novelised his experiences in Changi during WW2.
Shah-nameh (Ferdausi) : supposedly "Iran's second Qur'an" - even the Islamist authorities don't dare challenge the pagan prospects and perspectives of this great epic.
Heroes
Too many of them to list down, but first and foremost come my family and friends. They're the reason why I was born, why I am here, why I laugh and cry. Henceforth, they're the reason why I build myself up to wage peace and make war. Drink to the health of your family and raise a toast to your friends! they're the ones who really make your day, make pain, death, devastation and boredom (the mother of all disasters) bearable and give meaning otherwise to seemingly empty material achievements.
In the Historical Figures dept. , expect one of them could be Frederick the Great. Nothing r0x0rz my s0x0rz like this dialogue supposedly attributed to him:
"What's that soldier doing in irons over there?" "We found him shagging his horse, sire." "Fool, don't put him in chains, put him in with the infantry!"
About me: "On a bed of nails I lie, dreaming of you
and I now see places I've never been to,
towns and cities, raised, rising
from the base of my palms,
foreign shores, foreign suns,
new borderlines and trade routes-
"...the heart, once crimson with blood
is stopped amidst strands of night,
beating relentlessly, watching the constellations
upon foreign, forbidden shores-
"On a bed of feverish passion, I stretch out for you
a quick gust of the wind, the Thulian breath
that rips the brain away,
along with the testicles-
a stroke of the hour, the swipe of the blade;
the sword cleaving the Gordian knot,
wrenched to my unconscious:
"The hour has come."

Who I'd like to meet: ...Temo di dirti quanto ti amo, ohi bella mia:
Che il vino perde 'l suo perfumo
Quando s'è versato in una calice...
-Nizar Qabbani (1923-98, trad. R. Hoi)
At present I don't really want to meet new people, but I would like to have a pet.
That is, a pet dragon, please.
