the lines were formed in 1976 by nucleus members rico conning and jo forty, with pal bill cran on drums. they were augmented in 1977 by hywel phillips and in this incarnation they played several concerts most notably londons celebrated bug hole thee roxy club.
in early 1978 pete harker replaced bill and they recorded the single 'white night' which was released on the linear label and later re released on the illegal label of mssrs miles copeland and mark p. this record was well received all over the world and continues to attract correspondence from those stimulated by its unique atmosphere. the group ceased to function for some months after this.
in 1979 musical activities were resumed with new members nicholas cash late of prag vec and mick linehan of alternative t v.

the lines played many concerts with such notable peers as deutsch american freundschaft, bauhaus, birthday party, the soft boys, theater of hate, the cure, etc.
